I've had a bit of a browse to see if any previous posts address this but failed miserably... maybe I'm looking wrong!  

I read that chocolate can be good for type A's but what type of chocolate? I assume that not all chocolate is good...

Is the dark chocolate better because it has less sugar? That would have been my theory... Any other tips, anyone?

Pure Chocolate, the darker the better.  If you're trying to avoid sugar, stick with unsweetened chocolate or cocoa.  

Some people melt unsweetened chocolate and add in their own compliant ingredients, making their own candy.

I drink black cocoa, made with hot water and unsweetened cocoa, with a little ghee and lecithin.

dark organic 70%+++ chocolate has detoxifying properties and also has a low glycemic value so it won't spike your blood sugar like milk chocolate does

It is my understanding that the darker the better because it contains more antioxidants. I like very dark chocolate, but I think most of us know that it is bitter without some type of sweetener to take the edge off. It is possible to find dark chocolate with a high cocoa content that is low on sugar. Or as others have suggested, try making your own hot chocolate with other sweeteners. Agave nectar is a good choice that has a low Glycemic index. I also like dark chocolate that has roasted nuts in it, like almonds or walnuts. The nuts add to the healthy aspect, but also to the calorie content so a little can go a long way.

Chocolate!
I loved that I'm no quitter line!
Good Chocolate "ain't cheap.
I'm an O with chocolate dementia these days.
That being said: Ghiradelli semi sweet just does it for me and I hope to ease off somehow,someday soon. There is also this whole fair trade /organic issue to raise though that is quite another topic. I don't know if it would be true to say that organic is fair trade or vise/vs
but both targets seem worth aiming for with a guilty pleasure like this.

I like Dagoba. Their chocolate is a sacrament. It should be offered up on altars. Their dark chocolate is heaven on earth. A little goes a long way, which is a good thing since it's fairly expensive, but I'm willing to pay for quality. Chocolove is another good brand.

If you are concerned about fair trade, look for the symbol that indicates the chocolate was made with cocoa from small growers. Our local HFS offers a pretty decent selection of fair trade chocolate. We have a small bowl of it on our kitchen table. It's nice to grab a nibble once a day.

If you want something crunchy with that nice chocolate taste, get some cocoa nibs. They're pretty good! I tried some in my trail mix and they were really tasty, went well with the nuts and dried fruit. Mountain Rose Herbs carries cocoa nibs.

The other day someone gave me a piece of a Hershey bar with almonds. Yikes! They need to change the cocoa bean they use to flavor those bars. Nasty! I can't believe how far downhill Hershey has gone, imo anyway. The Special Dark tastes like some weird cheap imitation of chocolate.

Yuk, that stuff is just nasty   I picked up the special dark last week and it ended up in the trash.

I expect this will gross most folks out but I recall a study that claimed that "chocolate allergies" had less to do with chocolate than so many other things not actually intended to be present in the product ,like for instance..........you fill in the blank...give up? Let me whisper this.....c--kr--ches. Most commercial product just makes me feel poorly not long after I've had it. That Ghiradelli at least doesn't seem to do that and it's affordable, not that that is a good thing for me though. I enjoyed reading about some solar powered chocolate company in Costa Rica I can't remember where I saw that. They were claiming fair trade and all that. The other dark side of the chocolate growing as I understand it is simply horrendous and not to be dissmissed. Real unspeakable exploitation of children and others in all the gruesome ways likely to be devised. As bad as most bad things are. Makes me wonder as I type this: How bad is Ghiradelli? I sense a conversion to verifiable fair trade in my chocolate habit. Interesting how reading/ posting on this forum can do that to one eh?

Yeah. There`s something strange happening in Norway, too. NOt that our traditional milk chocolate ever was that healthy but it tasted nice. UNtil Kraft bought the company that is. Now the quality has gone completely downhill.

I have given up eating regular chocolate- it doesn´t taste as good as it used to and
there are so many nice alternatives
Mostly I buy Max Havelar( fair trade) or organic version
but I don´t say no to really good quality of conventional choc as well.

Funny enough
I used to prefer milk chocolate - but the last years my tastebuds has turned for dark chocolate- find most milk chocs too sweet
Even my "little " O who used to do milk chocolate - likes 70 % better- and If she is really craving sweets even 84 % is ok with a few dry fruits on the side.
