Just got this as an email this morning from Mercola. Although most of my cooking utensils are cast iron or ceramic, I do have two frying pans that are not. Also, a George Foreman grill which I seem not to use very much lately. Good deal on here too. Debra |

Thank-u Debra I use Cook-O-Matic; 3 Ply 20-10, Surgical stainless steel ...Hopefully people will agree that this is superior quality as well; especially since it's practically all I use ... I have a whole set !! |

We use either Stainless Steel, cast-iron, or porcelain over steel...
We have some non-stick coated cookware, but it doesn't get used much, if ever, now. |

I primarily use cast-iron or stainless steel, or glass in the oven. |

The add says: Don't endanger your family's health with potentially toxic pots and pans, including Teflon, aluminum, stainless steel, and copper.
Why are stainless steel and copper considered potentially toxic? and can one, over time, absorb too much iron from the iron skillets? |

Maybe I missed this but I didnt see what the enamel to coat the cast iron was made from. I would want to know this before purchasing. |

Italy, I take anything Mercola has to say with a grain or two of salt. Having said that, he did mention that women who are post-menopausal or men, may get too much iron from cast iron cookware. I don't seem to have a problem with that, and I donate blood every 6-8 weeks. So for now, that's primarily what I use. Plus, my cast iron cookware is nicely seasoned. |

We use stainless steel, cast iron and glass. I am slowly saving up for some Le Creuset cookware, specifically a dutch oven to use in braising. (Le Creuset is enamelled cast iron cookware from France.) We also use a slow cooker--basically earthenware with a lead-free glaze. |

I believe the enamel is only on the outside. Is that a concern because of the heat? |

I use stainless steel and le creuset. I still have a nonstick frying pan- but that is going to be exchanged with a le creuset when it´s is my birthday . Le creuset is really good on gas- but a bit heavy on weak hands/wrists - and they need fat or oil- it is not a nonfat option- but who cares |

What a good idea. I think I’ll buy myself a set that Cook-O-Matic for my birthday which is March 23. They have a red set. Currently I have a full line of black Caphalon pots. Almost everything inside my house is red, white or black. |

Hi Arlene, The enameled cooking sets are not the Cook-o-matic brand that Lisalea owns. That is a waterless ss line. The sets from mercola.com are the enameled in red, blue and green. The interior surface is black enamel. "Each piece of Enameled Cast Iron Cookware comes with a smooth black enameled interior and a color glossy exterior . . ."The two people who posted reviews on the enamelware they bought from the Mercola site said they chip easily (which is why it is cheaper than Le Creuset). There is supposedly a warranty from the mfg (Range Kleen Mfg., Inc.) but I'll guess it does NOT cover the shipping of the 50 lb pan back to them. There is a link to a .pdf file describing the warranty but Adobe 7.0 reader won't work with my browser so I can't read it. I hope you can if you decide to try out this particular enamelware brand. When I got this email it was exciting to think I could now possibly afford to try out a couple of enamelware pieces . . . finally! However, the reviews brought me back to the reality that oftentimes, you do get what you pay for. Quality doesn't usually come cheap! Until I can buy a Le Creuset piece to try I will continue to use my All Clad and my waterless pieces for which I have no safety (leaching) concerns at all. |

Hi my Cook-O-Matic set has since been discontinued unfortunately;I was informed a couple days ago when I sent them an e-mail. I've had my set for almost 20 years (still in great condition actually and I use them on a daily basis ... however, they were quite expensive at the time of purchase) Indeed they r NOT the same set as Le Creuset, which u can find here: http://www.lecreuset.com/usa/products/new.php#4Cheers |

I just ordered a set today before I read your post. I’ll let you guys know if they chip easily. It is reassuring to know that Lisalea’s set lasted for 20 years. If they do not hold up I’ll buy Le Creuset for my next birthday. |

Arlene, That is her Cook-o-matic stainless steel set, not the enamelware. Yes stainless steel is practically indestructible! It is usually just the handles and knobs on those sets that can need to be replaced. I do hope you can give a good review to this enamelware set. I certainly would like to find that they are more durable than they appear to be right now! |

Well my set will definitely get a workout. My son goes to college in the city and lives at home. Since I travel so much, he does his own cooking. He’s actually a better cook than me. Hey some of the best chefs are men. On Sundays he makes me a special stew/soup: Beef broth, vegies, herbs, and different meats like venison, elk, buffalo, venison or rabbit plus rice or spelt noodles. Sometimes he adds wine if he didn’t drink all of mine. He’s a good cook, but not gentle. If the set can hold up against him, it will hold up for you. |

I am in the market for new cookware and this weekend I found the Emeril cookware on sale. It was 18/10 stainless steel but on the bottom was alumium and copper. Would you think with the alumium & copper on the outside of the pots it would be okay. THe interior was the ss. IT was a great price 199.00 w/$30 coupon. Today is the last day of the sale. They also throw in a cast iron griddle. |

I just got home a couple of hours ago from a week in Pasadena and my birthday present (to myself) was waiting for me. We’ll try out the cookware this weekend. Tonight is pizza, wine and my annual piece of French Silk chocolate cream pie. My son goes to Bakers Square and buys one piece of pie every year for me. He never eats cake or pie so he doesn’t get a piece for himself.
Busy Bee, I’m not an expert on pots, so maybe someone else can answer your question now that I’ve brought this post back up to the surface again. |
