I'm a newbie, so please give grace to me if I have posted in the wrong forum.

I am Type A, have been on the "plan" for about 9 days now. No red meat AT ALL in any form for these 9 days. Dairy consumption has been almost 100% avoided with the exception of one meal where I had a serving size of about a half-a-teaspoon of a cheese dip that I dipped chicken into. No sodas, with the exception of a triple-filtered carbonated water/pure cane sugar/green tea and lime extracts soda produced by "Blue Sky." I have also been able to avoid everything made with milk, with the exception of the one meal I spoke of earlier. Snacked on homemde blueberry muffins out of a buckwheat mix. Snacked on mozzarella cheese. Lots of pinto beans, lots of soy sauce on rice, lots of peanuts, lots of organic carrots and broccoli, lots of fresh pineapple. Those items have kept me away from the processed, nicely-wrapped junk foods that I have enjoyed for 30+ years thus far.

SO HERE"S THE REASON FOR MY POST: I passed a stool today and it had mucus in it, very slimey and had a very musty and/or dank smell to it--IN 30 years, I have never had anything but a regular, chunky brown stool that smells like normal stool. In fact, I would say that the entire "stool" was just a bunch of slime or mucus. I tried the Type A diet about two years ago and was successful at it for about four weeks straight with the same thing happening to my stool as I just described. Is my body ridding itself of toxins, and the result is the weird stool? My wife is also Type A and has been very disciplined with me, as well, over these past 9 days. She, too, had the same stool experience today. I have googled my "problem" and can only see one pertinent post in another forum whereby the reply was that it might be the result of an illness or bacterial situation.

Can anyone reply with BTD explanations, or is this most likely a sickness of some sort? I do not have BTD friends or family to turn to. I am very relieved to see that this forum exists whereby I can reach out and perhaps get some answers and counsel.

OTHER "CHANGES" ARE: With almost zero dairy over the past 9 days, I no longer wake up and cough up mucus for 30 minutes. I had actually been choking and gagging on it, as I tried to expel it for about 20 or 30 minutes each day, and it was draining down my throat so quickly that it triggered gag reflex and would make me vomit on about 4 out of 7 days each week. I would have to wake up extra early just to make "room" for the coughing and spitting session each day. It was embarassing because my wife and two daughters avoided me like the plague each morning because I made such noise when I coughed it up. Therefore, this diet has been worth it just for that sort of improvement in my quality of life each morning.

I'm proud of myself for the 9 days of disciplined behavior. I grew up in a meat-eating family where we ate red meat every day...sometimes multiple meals within the same day. The Type A diet is not culturally tolerant of my upbringing! But that's OK, I know that the Type A plan is beneficial for me. BOTH of my granparents died of stomach/intestinal cancer. My other grandparents died of heart disease. My dad has severe heart disease, as does his two brothers. It's easy to see that Type As really are.

I endulged today with a hot dog with cheese on top. I have learned from my past Type A excursion (2 years ago) that I needn't be too rigid in the early going. I need to allow myself the occasional indulgence. I figure a small portion of red meat or dairy or processed/cured meat (once-per-week) is a lot better than how I had been eating it every day of my life thus far.

By the way, I am really enjoying a concoction of soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and dry "hot" mustard that I mix up and use as a sauce for a big bowl of rice or for dipping chicken bites into. I also found that by adding chunks of pineapple and a few peanuts to it, and then blending it in a blender, I have made a great salad dressing for my spinach and romaine lettuce meals. Toss in some organic carrots, organic broccoli, and shredded mozarella cheese and I have a very beneficial yet very tasty meal that doesn't deprive me of flavor!

This is a big leap for me. I live in heartland of rural Texas, raised on a farm, and this sort of lifestyle change is a major leap of faith and a test of my will. But it's been great. I feel more energetic (I've always felt sleepy and sluggish after meals that contained red meat or dairy products). No more coughing and hacking in the morning. And  have the peace-of-mind that I am helping my body locate and neutralize potential cancer cells.

Yes, more than likely this is related to some form of detox or other good change in your digestive system, particularly since you stated that your previous diet was significantly different than the type A BTD.

Congratulations on the health improvements you have already experienced.

Welcome to the forum, gpshafer_1976.

It appears that you may be deposting toxins, fat, et al. from your body into your stools.  I believe this is your body's way of detoxing bodily wastes during the past nine days on this lifestyle.

Congratulations on your much improved health and taking the inititative to have greater health in your life.

gpshafer,

In colorful terms, I would describe what you are experiencing as the blood type diet helping your greater intestinal system to conduct a kind of "demonic exorcism", the process of which is obviously pretty disturbing to you.  The end result, however, will be something vastly more improved from the original state.

I really want to congratulate you on summoning the immense courage it takes to venture out into the great unknown like you have, with this diet.  It will literally transform your life, enormously for the better.  The most painful part will be the realization that it may likely cause you to no longer fit in with the same social activities and traditional circles you did before.  If you stick with it, you will start to realize enormous benefits, and you will find yourself requiring a whole new peer group of people who embrace a broader, healthier mindset.

Beyond this, I would also offer you this bit of assurance:  falling "off the wagon" with respect to this diet does not mean failure.  Don't look at it that way.  Look at it, instead, as your brain subconsciously exercising its own perfectly healthy, childlike need to sneak a peek behind the curtain and really, truly verify through direct experience that there really is a difference between when you're both on, off, and back on the diet again.

With this said, two products that I would suggest to help you along with this cleansing process are "Deflect" from Dr. D's company, North American Pharmacal (NAP), as well as "Intrinsa", also from NAP.  These products are excellent cleaners and repairers of the whole body and particularly the gut tract itself.

In fact, beyond these, I would also suggest that you might also consider an additional total body system cleanse of all your major organs, including your lungs.  Something like "CleanseSmart" by Renew Life couldn't hurt.

gpshafer,
It sounds like a great improvement, however, considering the fact that you've had years of a poor quality diet for your blood type and also the fact that you have noticed the mucus in your stool have you thought about seeing your doctor about having a colonoscopy? Mucus is one of the changes of note in bowel health.
eh

I researched some colon cleansing products the other night. I wanted to get your opinions on them, and it appears that one person here has already mentioned to me that Dr. D has a few products worth using.

I will probably use the prduct(s) described to me in this thread.

And "yes" it was/is disturbing to see what comes out. But, "it" needs to happen.
