I have been preoccupied with friends and family and their issues, and have been off the program to a degree. Not terribly bad, but I feel bad. One thing is that I have gone off my supplements for a few weeks, and I don't know if it is in my head or what, but I feel like I can't get it together. I start out the day eating right, and by afternoon I am grabbing something like crackers or worse. I have been fighting a flu for over a week, never did get the high fever that others did, but it added to this feeling of just vegetating part of the day. I have been out of my tyrosine, too. Am getting some today, as I think that might help. Woe is me. Just had to share, as sometimes just that will get me going again! Thanks for listening.

Hey trish44...sure you can get it back together. We have all been there...done that. Yep...and being out of your supplements doesn't help. Glad to see you are working towards being complaint again. It is so easy to eat something that is not compliant. When you get a craving try sticking a piece of protein in your mouth. I try to have some kind already cooked on hand at all times. Hard boiled eggs and jerky come in real handy. Once I get it into my mouth I make myself slow down to get the saliva juices going so it will help curb the cravings. Even if I over indulge on it, I figure it is better than getting into the avoids. Keep us posted.

I've overindulged many times on compliant foods in order to get through a bout of cravings from going off the wagon! So load up the kitchen with compliant proteins, walnuts, fruits, etc., etc., and you'll make it through. Just keep eating the good stuff until the cravings go away. It used to take me 2 or three days of this to finally get balance. And yes, get back on the supp's and exercise and epsom salt baths help as well... maybe some saunas... and rest when you can get it. I always would get alot of brain fog and fatigue as well.
When I go off the wagon I know I have upset my brain and body chemistry and I have to take good healthy measures of self care to get back on. It will work...
I feel for you.. I've been there... it's hard.... but we are here for ya!
Thanks to all. I am doing much better today. Had a delicious blueberry shake and some walnuts so far, and am going to have a salad with salmon for dinner. I can't believe how quickly I can get to feeling like this. I also had my glutamine today, two of them, and that is helping with the appetite, and am going to do some bouncing, as well..... It is sooo good to have you all here.
I happen to think that relapses are critical to making permanent change.
The reason for this is that, during relapses, you gain direct consequences for "falling off the wagon": either you suffer, or you do not suffer. I actually think that relapses are not accidental at all: I think that, subconsciously, something within you needs to "test" the new state to see if it's really made a difference after all. Call it your "inner scientist" comparing experimental results (how you feel under the BTD) against the normal condition (how you feel off it).
Subconsciously, I think your mind and body are really just looking for a reminder that there is, in fact, a difference. I think they need that information, to really trust that the diet works and should be continued. Relapses are a great way for your body to get a refresher course.
The trick is, I think, to realize this as a golden opportunity in disguise, and remember to keep your mind awake and attuned to any changes in feeling and state of being you experience while off the diet. And, over time, your mind and body will strengthen that connection of awareness and, more importantly, habit and it will become more a standard and unfailing way of life for you.
