drink lots of water and maybe make some parsley pesto type relish......without the onions and garlic, of course. |

Quoted Text
Ketosis can be a cause of bad breath, since some of the ketones formed are exhaled from the lungs. Additionally, the digestive tract may slow somewhat in the absence of cleansing vegetables and fruit, which slowdown can also cause bad breath -- as can build up of bacteria on the teeth, tongue and gums.

OH! I might be able to help you here... my husband has been on the BTD for awhile now and losing a lot of weight... but his breath was really bad .. I suppose because he was losing weight.. and he is a physician, and I really told him he couldn't talk to patients with that kind of breath!!! total turn off!!! but no matter how much he brushed his teeth or flossed, he had it...
this happened once before, and I got some special toothpaste from the dentist.. so this time I just went to the drug store and bought this special toothpaste and mouthwash especially suited for this problem.. it is called Thera Breath... there is a toothpaste and a mouthwash... this cleared the bad breath up immediately!! it worked as well as the special stuff from the dentist..... so maybe look for that.. it worked for my husband.. and now I don't have to worry about him killing his patients with bad breath.... but I do NOT let him eat garlic.. or my sons.. or me.. I know garlic is a good for you food.. but I can smell garlic breath a mile away.. .. and I find it so unattractive! I have some very good friends who eat it and it almost kills me... it's in so many processed vegetarian foods... like canned soups... Amy's Organics in particular.. so I prepare most everything from scratch to avoid the garlic.... I'm not sure if this Therea Breath can override the garlic or not.. |

Let's all keep in mind how much surface area there is in the mouth. Cleaning our teeth is only a part of oral hygiene. We also need to clean the roof of the mouth, inside the cheeks and the gums; But especially the tongue! What a breeding bed of bacteria the tongue is! I'm amazed at how many coated tongues I see everyday, and it reflects into the breath. A great way to clean the tongue is to do the "Lion", which is a yoga pose for the health of the throat, vocal cords and the lymph glands in the throat: Take a deep breath through the nose. Exhale through the mouth, while opening the mouth as wide as possible and sticking the tongue out as far as you can. In this position, either use your tongue scraper or your toothbrush, and clean the tongue until it is all clean. This practice makes a great difference in the smell of the breath and a nice side effect is the improved health of the throat. After cleaning the mouth and tongue, the mucous in the nasal cavity will be loosened, so this is the ideal time to blow the nose and massage the inside of the nostrils with a natural herbal salve, with ingredients like olive oil, shea butter, calendula, vit. E, etc. Calendual salve by the Super Salve company is my favorite. http://www.supersalve.com |

also, if one has ANY teeth missing, your teeth will shift towards each other and create pockets for food to stay trapped. Even an hour in there will cause problems. |

There is some oxygenating component in this
TheraBreath
that makes this really work!! I am usually quite skeptical about things like this, but this combination of toothpaste and mouthwash knocked the bad breath out like lightening!!! it iwas created by this doctor who is known for his work in fresh breath... specializes in bad breath problems... hope you try this! |

I think my O-compagnero Yamanilein would recommend in case of overloads of garlicsmells: just go for raw parsil intake but the healthbenefits of this stuff is most important; if it stinks or not...doesn't bother ......and arent' there other plants fromwhich chlorophyl might be won than alfalfa |

Personally, I believe that halitosis is just another acute symptom of some underlying problem, just like headaches, heartburn, constipation, etc. Oral hygiene is critical, but when dealing with a chronic condition, it's just another dose of tums or advil. IMHO. |

Chlorella may assist with the problem internally.
Externally, I believe chewing fresh parsley and ginger root may help 'cover up' a challenged breath.

Yes, we sort of got off track on the garlic breath.. but the point here is bad breath from the low carb / losing weight issue.. this is where that TheraBreath really worked for my husband.. he was not eating any foods that would cause bad breath in general .. i.e.. garlic, onions.. it was just coming from the stomach, which is why brushing the teeth wasn't helping... I don't know why this TheraBreath works..
be sure she follows the directions on the back when using this.. I think it's important.. there are some specifics...
this was created by Dr. Harold Katz for people who are really struggling with bad breath issues...best of luck!!! |

Here is a list of ingredients in TheraBreath, from their website.
TheraBreath Toothpaste Ingredients:
sorbitol, hydrated silica, water(aqua), aloe barbadensis gel, glycerin, OXYD-8 (stabilized ClO2), tetrapotassium pyrophosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, sodium lauryl sarcosinate, carrageenan, xylitol, sodium fluoride, essential oil of peppermint, sodium benzoate
If the smell seems to arise from the stomach, it sounds like ketosis caused odor. I agree with the advice to use chlorophyl. |

exactly, Victoria...
this stuff, the TheraBreath, really goes to work on the ketosis odor and works like a charm!!!
I have also tried the chlorophyl pills with limited success... but the TheraBreath is the charm that got my husband back seeing patients with fresh fresh breath to go with his great smile!!! I just couldn't stand the thought of him knocking out his patients as he spoke to them with his breath... this stuff is a miracle! |

Undigested foods cause bad breath. If she is a Type A or AB that may well the case with a large part of the diet coming from meat. When food isn't digested fully it starts to ferment and becomes food for bacteria (and they're often stinky). |

I would opt for something natural as Victoria stated in lieu of a product with all those chemicals ... just my opinion! |

Dr. D says that chronic halitosis can be a symptom of a bacterial overgrowth of the intestines. He recommends following the antibiotic protocol listed in his blood type encyclopedia.
The encyclopedia listed astragalus as an antibacterial substance for me (type O). When I took it regularly, my halitosis disappeared. |

Just for the record, I am not recommending TheraBreath. I don't have an opinion on it since I've never used it and have not researched the topic much. The ingredient list was just for educational purposes for those of you who were interested. |
