I place mine in a tupperwear ... also;
should they be in the fridge as well ?

If I buy a small quantity of figs on a certain week; I will keep it stored outside sealed up.  

In the past when I have purchased larger quantities of dried figs, I store them in a glass container to keep them fresh.

Others factors pertaining to storage depend on climate, humidity, quantity, freshness of figs.  I believe storing the dried figs outside or in the refrigerator would be fine.

Never been to one that does - but I gather they are a lot smaller in Europe and offer a much more limited range...

I store all three in my kitchen cupboard and have never had any problems.

My family always freezes theirs but we always order large quantities. We now have two chest freezers and have managed to fill both of them up with out really wanting to. We also store our grains, beans, frozen meat, and nuts in there. I really seems to keep things fresh for us.

i buy from Earth Fare and they always have theirs where the nuts and cookies are, but never in the refridgerator so  i keep my figs and prunes in the cupboard. i never thought to refridgerate :/

WOW ... Great ideas ... TY  u very much
... I would much prefer to keep my figs on the counter this way they do NOT get hard, however; mold/bacteria etc ...  worries me hence I'm hesitant !!

The real issue is if you are trying to keep Fresh Figs - If they are properly dried, they are really pretty stable no matter where unless they get damp again.

From Fig experiments several months back - The Figs do just fine in Honey {to use like a Jam/Preserve} or in Red Wine{but there never seems to be quite enough leftover, when its ready, for the Hassenpfeffer Recipe}...

the type of figs we get- can keep months... if not years in my relative cool larder/pantry.
I found a bag from last year and they tasted fine- I DID feed the birds with them just to be sure.
1 bag of 250 grams figs last less than 2 months here anyway so I just store them in a glass with a lid.
I made some wonderfull fig spread just by putting figs and my last harvest of honey and a bit of lemonjuice in the blender. It was really yummi.

Just poke'em with your finger...If they are really soft and 'Spongy' then still too wet.
Dry will be firm or even hard but then its a bit tough of a chew unless you soake'em first.

You'll need to be careful of the Package store-bought as they get sprayed with a sweet syrup to 'preserve freshness' while still in the pack. Once the packet is opened however...

Grrrr that makes me mad 'cause on the pack and I always read ingredients; it says naturally dried and 100% natural !!!

Look for unsulphured, 100 % organic dried figs/dried fruit with no added sugars.
