Hello everyone. My husband and I have recently decided to start the BTD. We don't even have any of the books yet, we couldn't find any at the bookstores so we had to order them online. We ordered both Eat 4 Your Type and Live 4 Your Type to start.
I'm 27 and my husband is 30. We have always eaten very well and are always looking for ways to kick it up a notch. We have never actually tried any so called "diets" since our normal diet is very healthy. We've done lots of reading about the diet online and from the Food Values chart here on the site plus eating lists we found online for our blood types, we've already begun to alter what we're eating till our books come in. It already seems to be making a difference in how we feel. That was quick!
After reading about the BTD we decided we'd like to try it not just to loose a little weight but as a preventative measure. In my husbands family, he's (type A) susceptible to colon and prostate cancer. My husband has no current health problems. As for myself (type AB) I've beaten off pre-cervical cancer twice and have some Actinic Keratosis (AK) on one temple that I'm already treating succesfully with essential oils (mainly Frankincense oil). So my plan is to keep all female cancers at bay to include skin cancer (I'm fair skinned) and improve my overall health where possible.I have no major current health problems either.
I'm sure we'll meet some great people on here. Till next time.....

Welcome, you two, and enjoy these talk threads, that's what got me convinced I'd found the right place! I'd normally chat more, but I'm rushing off to a particularly trying day at work and after, so I'll have to leave my O-cavewoman club at home today, coz I know I'd be tempted to swing it alot today!! |

Lianne...welcome to the forum and the BTD way of life. Great that you have already been eating a healthy diet and that just by altering it to BTD you are seeing improvements. Beaten pre-cervical cancer twice...way to go...I had it over 13 years ago and took the hysterectomy route. (Already had children) If only I would've known then what I know now. Glad to hear that you are getting the Eat Right and the Live Right. So much good information in both. Looking forward to your posts. Debra |

Hello and welcome usaf! First, I'd like to thank you and your hubby for your service to our country. I come from a USAF family (Dad, sister, brother served-daughter now serving). Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed. Secondly, congrats on living a conscience lifestyle that helps you to overcome health issues such as cervical cancer! I'm sure your daughters are learning life skills that will help them make good health choices as they get older. We here at the BTD forums are a supportive group and will do all we can to answer any questions you might have. Read ER4YT first as it covers the basic when, where and whys. LR4YT goes into secretor status and refines things to a greater degree. The LR4YT food lists are more up to date but there are still some typos etc. Hopefully, someone will come along and link the errata page for you!!!!!!!! Looking forward to hearing from you as you continue on the BT way! |

Welcome to the fourm! With your husband being Type A, and you coming close with cancer, twice, I highly recommend you both get your secretor status tested, even though you say your husband doesn't have any serious health issues. Here's why I recommend that. First, the Type A nonnie diet is vastly different from the Type A secretor diet. At least 26+ foods change value from allowable to avoid. Second, since you have had some cancer scares, it's even more imperative for you to avoid all the avoids for your specific type. You might even consider picking up Dr. D's Health Series Cancer book. In the Health Series Books, the food lists are broken down into five categories, further refining the diet to target that specific health issue. It also includes specific supplement protocols for that health challenge. There's lots and lots of information on the website. The Media Center has interviews and lectures by Dr. D. The Individualist is a wiki Dr. D developed, which was designed to include the scientific research related to the theory, and all things regarding blood type and human polymorphism. Some of those articles might be helpful when trying to get your main stream MD health practicioner's on board and supporting you in this new way of eating and living. Again, welcome! Please ask as many questions as you need. We are all here to help each other succeed in this new way of eating and living. |
| Knowledge is power. SWAMI gives you the diet that will unlock the key to better health, and it's all based on your unique individuality. |

Hi Lianne and welcome, if you like info on italian history and most important historical characters, please write me; I'll be glad when I can be helpful. My degree is on History of music, but I love history, sociology and political theories. I am very satisfied with BTD and have developed a good number of simple preferred recipes to deal at my best with all the cooking required. best wishes from Maria Giovanna |

Welcome to the forum, Lianne. How wonderful to begin the BTD at a young age. My own type A husband could probably have avoided his first heart attack at age 45 if we had only known about blood type and food. Of course, I can't dwell too much on that because Dr. D's first book didn't come out until much later. We were told about it in 1998 and both of us have been following it since.
We'll see you on the forum often, I hope. |

Thanks everyone for the replies. Yes I'd like to get a secretor test done, I should be able to go to the clinic here on base and ask to have it done no problem. I'll call next week and see what they say.
debra +, I had some cryo and the LEEP done for my pre-cervical cancer. Mine 1st showed up with my 1st pregnancy as with most women. The 2nd was due too being over stressed. Keeping it at bay is why I started aromatherapy & yoga.
Maria Giovanna, Thanks for the offer, I concentrate of North & Western Europe because that's my genealogy. I don't have much an interest in Italian history other than maybe the Renaissance.
It will be hard finding some food items on the island. There are no other flours in the stores but white, wheat & corn and forget finding Ezekiel bread here but we can get Rye allthough no rye flour. The so called Pay Less that sells organic foods isn't that great so we'll make due. Theres no fresh poultry and the frozen turkey section is much smaller than the chicken that we can't even have now. there's red meat everywhere and the fruits & veggies are not the greatest but ok. The island of Gaum isn't exactly heath oriented.

What's the possibility of ordering flours over the net? Have you done any searching to find someone who might ship to your area? Or, if you have /friendsfamily in the states who can order it and then ship it to you in a packet. Just trying to throw out ideas here for you. |

Lola, I've already read the newbie link but thanks for the other, l'll check it out.
KimonoKat, We have discussed ordering flours but haven't done any research on it yet.
We can atleast get our herbs & teas at the GNC here. That's the only place I can find flax seeds at all. It's funny how half of the teas we saw are beneficial for us we were already drinking except my husband loves Chai and now he has to give it up.
That's one I can't figure out, why is coffee and black tea so bad if (the black tea especially) since their full of antioxidants? |

Why does ER4YT need to be updated? Most of the differences in the food lists compared to LR4YT are because of the secretor/non-secretor differences, which weren't covered in ER4YT by design. There were only a few food value that changed because of new information.
The different books are in different stages of upgrade or complexity. For example: First book (Eat Right 4 Your Type) was a basic synthesis of the concept. It had to make some judgements regarding homogenizing information if it was secretor status specific. If a food was deemed a more serious avoid for a non secretor than it might be as a neutral or beneficial for a secretor, then the non-secretor value was used. The Second Book (Live Right 4 Your Type) had secretor status differences and a very small number of food value changes, reflecting the advances in basic scientific knowledge. The 'little books' (Food and Beverage Guides) Are a mass market book, very simplified, with largely just secretor guidelines and with a few of the altered values included.

I see, I was just wondering if it would help cut down on the initial confusion between the two. And as I'm reading this page on type AB and cancer prevention, it makes me glad I was already drinking Echinacea tea before coming across this diet. http://www.dadamo.com/bloggers/ask/archives/00000091.htm |

http://www.dadamo.com/errata/smartfaq.cgiadd the changes to your books Special processing retains a far greater. antioxidant profile in green tea leaves than. in black tea.
Quoted Text
Dr D Green tea is actually the same plant as its more well-known cousin black tea; however, special processing retains a far greater antioxidant profile in green tea leaves, resulting in a far and away superior beverage for supporting health. Numerous scientific studies now document the tremendous benefits of drinking green tea.

Lola, yes I read that but just wondered if there was something else about black tea that made it an avoid.
Thanks for the eratta link, soon I'll learn where to find all this info here to specific questions. |

Yes I used the search earlier and came up with one some mentioning caffeine since it's bad for AB types, I'm just trying to find out if theirs another reason. I did come across this tho.....scroll down to Type A With Acid Reflux http://www.dadamo.com/bloggers/ask/archives/archive-102004.html

Chocolate has also been shown to provoke GERD symptoms, and I have observed clinically that black tea might has a similar effect in some people.

1. Welcome, Lianne! I hope you will enjoy the support and info you find here. This cybercommunity has become a big part of my life. In short, it rocks. 2. Great post, KimonoKat! 3. Note: if you follow the diet as laid out in LR4YT, note that there is a rather important error in the frequency recommendations for fruit for all types. The "per week" should say "per day". ( http://www.dadamo.com/errata/smartfaq.cgi?answer=1075208133) Thus, you are really allowed and encouraged to eat significantly more fruit than what it looks like in the book. In fact, fruit is important for all types, so enjoy! 4. Did I mention, GREAT post, KK? Very important stuff in her post. |
