What do some of you do for salad dressings when you eat out? I usually try to get olive oil and lemons if they have olive oil. Sometimes, they don't have olive oil. Usually, everyone has balsamic vinegar based dressings.

In the past, I have brought my own extra virgin olive oil to restaurants/road trips/traveling.

I, too, bring my own little bottle of olive oil with me in my purse. Athough some restaurants say they have olive oil it could be mixed with another less expensive, non compliant type of oil. By carrying my own I know what I am getting. Debra |

Modon-why not the organic olive oil packet? Does the other one taste better? I am just getting ready to order...looking for that inside info. Any one else tried the organic one? |

I didn't know they had an organic one. Great!
Becky, is that a new listing in their catalog since you first told us about this source? |

I skip the oil (unless olive is available) and just squeeze a little fresh lemon juice onto it. Does not take much. |

I usually ask for plain olive oil and a wedge of lemon on the side. If the restaurant doesn't have plain olive oil, I'll just use the lemon. I'm beginning to prefer my salads as is, without a dressing on them. This from someone who used to dump half a bottle of Italian or blue cheese on iceberg lettuce and consider that a salad! *shudder* The BTD has given me so much, but one of the best gifts is preferring to eat great food over pale substitutes. Thanks for the information on the olive oil packets Becky and MoDon! I will definitely order some to use when travelling. What a great idea! |

Yes, Don, it seems that we now have a choice between LaSpagnola extra virgin olive oil and Atlantic organic extra virgin olive oil - hope they continue to carry it - very nice |

I've gotten to the point that I don't even use dressings anymore, for the most part. Every once in a GREAT while, and if I do, it gets listed on the calendar. I have an oversized calendar on the kitchen wall, and anything that I consume that has avoids in it, goes up on the calendar. Last month, it had a few items written on it, but for the most part, the calendar was pretty bare. |

I have to say the dressing is a big part of the salad(in my opinion). By changing the dressing you have a new salad each time. On one of the sites I saw a olive oil with garlic. That sounds good. Love that garlic. I now see lots of olive oil dipping sauces. Has anyone tried this as a salad dressing. |

What a great thread!! I use olive oil if available and if not the lemon like so many others of you. I am also getting to where I like salad without dressing. I have made the "Kick expletive deleted Kale" from the recipe database which I LOVE. That has a dressing on it made from olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. It is wonderful!! Glad to know about the individual servings of olive oil!! I will definitely be getting some of those!

You are quite welcome. Glad I could be of some use around here. It's much easier to say no to having foods with avoids in them, when you can quickly glance at the calendar, and see what you've already had. It certainly makes me more aware, and in turn, causes me to make better food choices. |
