Anybody ever use raw eggs in their smoothies?  The yolks, whites, either or both?  Just wondering as some articles I have read advocate this, but I don't know.  Thanks for any thoughts!

PS- I get my eggs from a farmer who raises them free-range and all natural...

If the quality is high enough....
I ONLY eat raw eggs if they are less than 24 hours- why ? It takes aprox 24 hours for salmonella to move trough the shell. Pop the egg in boiling water a few secs and it would be rather safe - but only if it is less than 24 hours
= That means it is easiest to do if you have your own chicks....
I never use the whites- but often yolks in mayo- sauce bearnaise/hollandaise- or chocolate desserts
- and I have never been sick- and I seem to have a very sensitive stomach.

raw eggs are blocking the actions of  B-vits ....sorry haven't found my prooving link, but it is known in the literature too !
nothing against a tartar & raw yolk & oignons (best is horsemeat ) but please only for O's !!! and not too often....I guess.....

According to a reference book I have raw egg whites contain "avidin" which may interfere with the body's absorption of biotin. Therefore you should limit raw eggs to one a day.

True, you want to be careful about eating too much raw egg white by itself without also supplementing biotin. However, egg yolks have lots of biotin. Therefore, I have read that if you eat the whole egg raw you are probably OK as the avidin will not neutralize all the biotin in the yolk.

This apparently applies to egg white protein powder as well. That is why the one I buy is avidin neutralized and why NAP includes biotin in the Protein Blend O.

No, I have never used the Jay Robb Egg White Protein Powder. I see Jay Robb is now offering a new unflavored version without the "Natural Flavors". I don't think that was offered before when I looked at their offering. The Jay Robb Egg White Protein Powder is certainly a lot more expensive and it does not indicate that it is avidin neutralized, which I think is a nice feature.

I couldn't find that information on the Jay Robb website. However, since toxins are usually stored in the fatty areas of a body, I suspect that this may not be a big deal for the egg white, which is pure protein.

MoDon, I *think* Jay Robb has always offered an unflavored version, but wouldn't swear to it. I think I bought it before, but if not, then considered me disillusioned.  
Anyway, I was wondering about the taste of the two. I used JR for a long time and eventually had to stop. It was bothering me - headaches and got to where I couldn't stand the taste. I might give your brand a try. Thanks.

Could be.
I was looking around the Bioplex web site and noticed this:
Sweetened with Sucralose Aspartame Free

I guess this applies only to the flavored ones?  I am a bit exasperated as I can't find anything that lists all the ingred in each one - flavored or not.
The only thing I see re: the unflavored is the nutritional values and other ingred: Pasteurized dried egg whites.
Am I just missing the pages that give the exact ingred or are there none.

Okay, this a.m., I made a smoothie and put 1 poached whole egg and a couple more poached egg whites in the blender with some blueberries, banana, maca, water and a bit of ice.  It was yummy and I felt much more energetic than with the hemp.  I was a little leary of going all raw, but have read that poached is the best way to eat the eggs cooked.  Just put a little water in a skillet and crack the egg in it and let it cook for 5 minutes or so.  Very tasty and made the smoothie very smooth.

I ordered the NOW egg white powder.  It said that the avidin is neutralized because of pasteurization.

That is even cheaper than the Bioplex brand, but I'm not seeing ingred listed on that website either.

Vanilla flavor ˝ Pasteurized Dried Egg Whites, sucralose, and vanilla
  Chocolate also contains, cocoa for flavor
  Very Berry also contains, natural and artificial flavors and natural red beet powder for color
Natural has no flavors or sweeteners added.


I haven't bought any egg white protein powder in a long time. I just finished the 5lb container I had of BioPlex Simply Whites! a couple of weeks ago. The 5 lb container was a very good price/lb, but unfortunately they no longer offer the bigger 5 lb size.

Other Ingredients: Eggwhite Powder.
