Just got my book and on pg 86, under catagory of breads/muffins it lists ezekiel and essene breads are beneficial yet the avoids list contains sprouted wheat bread. From what I have read, they are one in the same, essene being 100% sprouted wheat and ezekiel having a few more sprouted grains but includes sprouted wheat. Mistake or what? Thanks |

I thought it was because ezekiel/essene are 100% sprouted grains, whereas some other so called "sprouted wheat bread"s contain a smaller % of sprouted grain along with some ordinary flour..........? but I am most definitely no expert, still very much learning so hopefully someone else can give a definitive answer. I don't even know whether we can get such things in the UK....... |

A couple of points. One, the food list values change slightly in the newer books starting with LR4YT. Also TYPEbase online should have the latest food values. I say this because Ezekiel bread is no longer considered a type O beneficial. It is currently rated a type O neutral, because it was determined that the manufacturer was not fully sprouting the grains in the bread. Two, the food value listing for sprouted wheat bread represents standard commercially available sprouted wheat bread, which seems to always include wheat flour also, which is a type O avoid. If you can find sprouted wheat bread, like at a health food store, that is only made with sprouted wheat, then it would be considered a type O neutral and OK to use.
Ezekiel, Essene and Manna breads are made from 100% sprouted grains, as opposed to all other commercially available sprouted grain breads which also have regular flour included in the recipe. The lectins in many grains are contained in the seed coat. The seed coat is actually metabolized by the seed/grain when it is germinated, thereby eliminating the lectin and rendering the food useable. New brand names of sprouted grain bread are continually coming to market. Always check the ingredient label for the presense of unsprouted flour or grain.

Thanks, as always, unless I make it, read the label! What happened to Ezekiel bread to not make it a beneficial? The ingredients seem okay. |

So that means that a particular manufacturer's ezekiel bread is a neutral. Maybe the manufacturer should have been noted, but if ezekiel bread is made the right way it would be beneficial, right? |

I don't know if you noticed or not, but on the Food for Life website it shows that the name Ezekiel 4:9® is registered, so the Food for Life Ezekiel bread will be the only "Ezekiel 4:9" bread you will find.

Does anyone know if Trader Joe's sprouted wheat bread is comparable to Ezekiel bread? I'm suspicious because it tastes so much better than Ezekiel bread! It doesn't have any wheat flour or any other kind of flour, but has wheat berries and wheat gluten listed. Are these alright to eat? |

I believe the whole grain wheat berry would be similar to wheat bran/germ, since it is the whole grain. If this is the case, wheat germ is only neutral for blood type AB, and wheat bran is only neutral for blood type AB: http://www.dadamo.com/typebase4/depictor5.pl?520The wheat berry must be sprouted for it to be a beneficial sprouted wheat bread. I'm new to this diet, as well as the forum. I am an O+. I've been on the diet for approximately 2 weeks. And, I'm looking for a receipe for pizza crust and a substitute for oat meal. Also, I thought I read some where that we coundn't take any supplements while on this diet. I currently use Co Q-10, fish oil capsules and kelp? Does anyone know if this is okay. |

Check the recipe base on this site. You can use spelt or any of the alternative flours like kamut, rice, etc. Ezekiel 4:9 tortillas can be used as well. After a while, you won't even miss it though! Jane

Welcome to the forum luluboy, Browse around the site and become familiar with all the features here. If you look at the top right of the page, you will see a link called "member center." If you click on that link, it will take you to a page where you can pick an appropriate avatar, to represent your Blood Type Shield. This comes in handy when others are trying to help you answer questions. Also on that link you can create a special message under your shield, and a personal signature that will appear in all your posts. Where did you read that you can't take supplements? Not true. Fucus, a specific variety of kelp is very beneficial for Type O's, and is one of the things Dr. D recommends for Type O's. What are you taking the other supplements for? Instead of fish oil, why not get your fish oil from beneficial fish? That being said, Dr. D has developed a line of supplements through North American Pharmaceutical (NAP) some specifically targeted for certain blood types, and other supplements suitable for all types. You can find them at The BTD StoresCheck the recipe base for spelt or rice pizza crust recipes. Understand though that grains really need to be kept to a minimum for Type O's to succeed on this new way of eating and living. In LIVE RIGHT, Oatmeal and oat products become avoid if you are a non-secretor. Again, welcome. |

I saw different type of Ezekiel 4:9 bread at Traders Jones, but didn't buy it because it has a lot of things in it that I wasn't sure if it is okay for B type even though I know Ezekiel Bread is good for B types. Actually, next time I go there I will write it down ingredients and come here and check the Typebase4.. |

hi MoDon, thanx for sharing this link.... I am going to distribute it here in CH-landli and yes I think people with glutenintolerance shouldn't eat any kind of gluten because they will react on this stuff and it is really very bad for the gut; I don't think that sprouting will do anything if you are intolerant to such stuffs ......sprouting isn't that merely to get off the effects of the lectins'activities |

Ozlem, as long as there is no whole or refined wheat flour added to the sprouted bread, it is fine. most commercial sprouted breads add unsprouted wheat flour also. that s what you want to watch out for.....it has to be 100% sprouted, even rye is ok to have sprouted if you are a B. now if you are celiac or have a gluten intolerance, then even 100% sprouted would be a problem. http://www.dadamo.com/typebase4/depictor5.pl?446white wheat flour is a neutral for B secretors........unless you are overweight or have an issue......best to avoid it. |

However, Food for Life does offer a few different versions of their Ezekiel 4:9 bread, sesame, low sodium, cinnamon raisin and of course the plain. Depending on blood type some of the versions might have avoids for some people. For instance, as a type B the cinnamon and the sesame would be an avoid. |

It has ingredients Org spourted wheat, org sprouted barley, org sprouted millet, org malted barley, org sprouted lentils, org sprouted soybeans, org sprouted spelt, filtered water, fresh yeast, sea salt. I have checked barley, millet, spelt okay, but how about wheat, lentils and soybeans, are they okay when they are sprouted? It also says low Glycemic, what is that?
Also, I saw somewhere but can't remember you can make your Alfredo sauce...anybody know where? |

the 100% sprouted grain breads are fine for you, always check for any personal issues you might have, ofcourse. about low glycemic........means there s no extra sweetener added to the product. and that sprouted grains in general have a lower glycemic count, than normal grains. for me, even sprouted breads are naturally sweet, and I prefer to stay away from them......it s all a matter of individuality, again! |

Any thoughts on Essene which is just sprouted wheat, organic millet and brown rice? It is listed in typebase as a beneficial for an O nonnie. You can find it frozen in a loaf which must be defrosted to slice. It's tasty -- more moist that most breads. |

Hi, I'm new here, but I'm going to chime in if you don't mind. Here in Ohio, we have a great source for 100% spelt bread. Berlin Bakery. http://www.berlinnaturalbakery.com/I think it is available outside of Ohio to a certain extent - and online throughout the country. They have THE BEST bread...whole spelt, WHITE spelt (my favorite), sprouted spelt, spelt dinner rolls, hamburger buns, hotdog buns, cookies, pasta - all sorts of stuff. One thing they point out on their website is a new FDA law that states spelt must be labled AS WHEAT on the ingredients of bread now....example: spelt (wheat) flour - which has been the cause of confusion for many people. They also say that spelt does contain gluten - so I'm wondering if spelt is still OK for O's? I hope so! |

Yes, spelt is OK for type O secretors, but not for type O non-secretors. The lectin is different in spelt versus standard wheat. I have been buying the Berlin Natural spelt bread for years, although I don't use it much anymore. One loaf of bread probably lasts my family 6-12 months. If Berlin Natural didn't use canola oil it would be good for type B too. |

Thanks! that makes me feel a lot better. I know I would probably be better off not eating much grain at all - but in the winter for some reason I "seem" to need it. Would you consider sprouted spelt to be a better choice than regular spelt? |

I believe Ezekiel 4:9 bread is often frozen because it is a live, sproputed food item., keeping it stored frozen will ensure 'shelf life' for consumers--dependent on how fast the turn-around time is where it is sold.

Our sprouted grain breads are not necessarily a source for "Live" enzymes. What's important to remember is the natural enzymes in the grains are activated during the sprouting process, which releases the vital nutrients. Basically, the enzymes are allowed to do their job before the grains are made into bread. It is this process that makes the difference!

The HFS I use says the Ezekiel comes frozen when they recieve it and she keeps it in a Fridge until sold. I then keep it in the Fridge at home. It took me a while but I now enjoy the Ezekiel bread better than any other. |

Thank you for pointing this out.
I believe most stores I frequent sell Food For Life Ezekiel products frozen.
When I lived in California, Trader Joe's may have kept it refrigerated; perhaps this may have been related to a higher turnover of these products.
Ezekiel 4:9 bread is another alternative to commercial wheat sandwich bread.

N.A.P. just sent out a new "Dr. D'Adamo's Update" on the differences between ezekial (leavened and unleavened) and even mentions a spelt pizza crust receipe. As for supplements, I know in an ideal world, if we all came to the diet pure and cleansed, we perhaps wouldn't "need" supplements if we followed the diet religiously. But many of us come to the diet after years of dietary abuse, after years of biochemical ups and downs. For me, anyway, a few of Dr. D'Adamo's supplements have helped tremendously while starting the diet, and over the past two years, his supplements have enabled me to stay on the diet, and finally stabilize and lose weight. I especially wouldn't do without his Deflect (for each blood type); Dr. D'Adamo's PolyFLORA (probiotic) for each blood type, and his recently released Intrinsa has been a godsend. If you don't live in a perfect world, and if you have arrived at the blood type diet, like me, after years of confusion--Dr. D'Adamo's supplements may help you make it through the beginning stages and along with the beneficial foods, help encourage the body to cleanse and reset. |

Does anyone know if this goes for rye manna bread? It's that small mushy loaf made only from crushed and baked sprouted rye. I'm not supposed to have whole rye but I wonder if the sprouted loaf is okay? From what I recall reading, when a grain is sprouted it loses its lectins. I would assume this would go for rye as well as wheat. I know I have a wheat allergy so I can't tolerate the ezekiel bread but I'm hoping the rye manna bread will be acceptable.
If no one on the forum knows is there an "official" source where I can find out? |

if your allergy is a gluten one, you should avoid all gluten containing grains, even if they re sprouted. sprouting takes care of the lectin,*WGA* but not the gluten. |

Thanks. I am just allergic to wheat, not gluten, so I guess I'm okay with the rye. What does WGA mean? |

Quoted Text
The seed coat of wheat contains a lectin called Wheat Germ Agglutinin (WGA).
They provoke the immune system to manufacture antibodies against them.
The acids within the stomach do not break down Wheat Germ Agglutinin and as it begins to be digested in the small intestine, it begins its mission to destroy O Blood Type Humans!
WGA binds to the cholecystokinin receptors and inhibits their action. Cholecystokinin (CCK) is a hormone secreted especially by the duodenal mucosa that regulates the emptying of the gallbladder and secretion of enzymes by the pancreas and that has been found in the brain. The enzymes digest fat, protein, and carbohydrates. CCK is also present in the brain and may play a part in appetite control. When CCK is low, appetite control is also low. Lectins block the CCK receptor and inhibit the secretion of amylase, which is needed to digest carbohydrates.
Then, WGA enhances membrane bound maltase, an enzyme that breaks down complex sugars into simple sugars in the small intestine. At the same time, WGA inhibits aminopeptidase, and enzyme that breaks down polypeptides into amino acids.
Once WGA has made it into the blood stream (because it resists digestion), it mimics the effect of insulin on the insulin receptor of fat cells. The actin binds to the fat cells and signal the cell to stop burning fat and to start storing extra calories as fat. Since WGL has already acted upon maltase to break down complex sugars into simple sugars, there are plenty of simple sugars to begin storing in the blood stream.

Would you consider sprouted spelt to be a better choice than regular spelt?
Almost any type os sprouted bread will have a higher nutrient value. Sprouted breads such as manna, which are made from various sprouted whole grains ranging from wheat to rye berries is rated as beneficial for both O secretors and O non-secretors: http://www.dadamo.com/typebase4/depictor5.pl?157Whereas, spelt flours and its byproducts are neutral for O secretors and an avoid for O non-secretors: http://www.dadamo.com/typebase4/depictor5.pl?396Alia |

I've read that the process of sprouting adds almost 20% additional protein to the food being sprouted. With that in mind, I would say that sprouted grains are better than non-sprouted grains. |

You can check all the current food value in Typebase. The Typebase button is also at the top of the page. That grains are best will change slightly depending on if you are a secretor or non-secretor. Therefore, you might want to consider getting your secretor status tested. If you don't know anything about secretor status you can start by reading the secretor info and links in the Tutorial. |

Hi I was wonderingif anyone has any information on Ezekiel flour that you can buy at the health food store,it is supposed to be organic..Is it a benefical for type A.I tasted a muffin with Ezekiel flour as the only flour and it tasted good. A health food store in our area is testing different flours in her recipes.I have used Hemp flour in a recipe with spelt flour a quarter cup.it tasted good.Their was a recipe on the bag.Is Hemp flour a benefical,it is suppose to have alot of good nutrients. Also does anyone have any information on Sorghum flour, it also suppose to have benefical nutrients like rich in B vitamins as well. Thanks for any information anyone can give on these flours as I like to experiment with baking but I would like to know if these are benefical flours or neutral or avoids Thanks again Buttercup |

it is up to each and everyone of us to decide if we do well with grains or not..... have you tested your secretor status yet?
I am a secretor, but haven t had grains in ages! besides, sprouted breads are thankfully not available down here, unless I make those myself...... |

Ezekial and Essene breads are fine because they are "flourless" breads. Sprouted wheat bread does have the same kind of sprouted wheat, but has flour to bind it. Apparently when we eat sprouted grains they contain the correct enzymes for digestion but when the same grains are ground into flour, the enzymes are killed. |

Essene and manna are made from raw sprouted grains.
Ezequiel, the brand, is made from sprouted grain flour exclusively.
still you need to always read ingredients when purchasing these types of bread.
I have done my own sprouted grain flours successfully, and you can make lots of different things out of them, like flat breads and muffins or even sprinkled over anything like you would ground linseed for example, or added for fiber in smoothies....endless possibilities.......very nutritious! |

Manna (essene) bread is a beneficial grain option for all blood groups, except for A non-secretors. One always has the option of purchasing the Nature's Path Rye Manna variety if they want to abstain from any form of wheat--even if it is from sprouted wheat berries. Alia |

True or False? * Manna bread is beneficial to all except to A-nonnies (neutral) * This means that every Type (except A-non) can have Manna bread often as they wish as long as: > the specific type of Manna bread has no A-list ingredients (ex: barey for all O's - cinnamon for B's - dates for O-non - cashews for most...etc) > you feel good after eating it and no adverse reactions (gas, bloating, lethargy, etc) Is this right? It's a bit confusing to the newbies - I think - b/c for all of the types it stated to be weary of your wheat and corn intake..... so I guess the real questions is....what happens during the sprouting process that makes wheat act as a Medicine? What IS sprouting anyway???? Aren't sprouts a bean with a long crunchy tail? Oh god now I'm more confused than when I started~!! !!!! ^_^ |

Long time no post. But I have stayed on the BTD through a whole lot of bad times. I credit BTD with helping me avoid development of an ulcer, or worse during the last 9 months I've been following it.
I don't see mention of the Genesis bread made by the same company that makes Ezekiel. I prefer the Genesis, as it seems to have more substance. Any info? |

Check the ingredients. Note what is different about it versus the Ezekiel bread and then make a decision if you think it is OK or not. |
