I asked a simple question and the company owner's email reply was unbelievably rude. I wouldn't care if this company were offering free 2 carat diamonds with their grass-fed meat, I would never do business with them.
I've ordered from the following companies, and the customer service has been very good in each case and in one case, exceptional.
oh and here's a fun tidbit from the email from Slankers (FYI, this comment wasn't even part of the 'rude' comments, this was their idea of being friendly)
"Also, the eat for your blood type deal is total nonsense."
$3/pound grass fed beef. I just oredered 10lbs- the most delicious ground beef I've ever had. Make sure you call them first to check on shipping. Overall, I wound up paying about $5/lb with shipping. At Whole Foods (which, btw, has its corporate office in Austin where I live) I pay $6/lb for grass fed.
try finding some one local. this fall my husband found some grass fed highland scottish cattle just up the road from where we live. the farmer takes great pride in his cows. we made good friends with him, we ride our mountain bikes up by his farm all the time. such a great guy. anyway we bought a quarter of a cow this fall for $2 a pound, and that was cut up and wrapped to. next fall i'm sure my husband will buy a half. it really is great if you can find someone local. a good website for local things is localharvest.com
Mandi, I do have somebody local. However, his prices aren't as good as the ones on that site. I live in NYC and nothing, repeat, nothing is reasonably priced here; from housing to food to medical care
Slanker: You mentioned several things in your request. One is red meats. All grass-fed meats (beef, pork, lamb, goat, bison) are dark colored. You mentioned other game meats: What's with that? Most commercially available exotic meats are grain-fed? Also, there is absolutely no nutritional advantage for exotic versus domesticated meats. Just different flavors.
Me: Thanks for your email. Red meat, by my understanding, is the meat of a mammal - as opposed to poultry/fowl. I was also under the impression that the game meats - bison etc, were often grass fed.
Slanker: Most folks call on the phone and establish contact. They get personal-- not impersonal. Maybe in New York folks just make demands andexpect people to respond like robots. eah, we know New Yorkers. Got a bunch forcustomers. The only ones we keep are those that are human. The otherswe have no use for. Maybe you've lived there too long. (Now how doyou like me??
Ted Slanker
P.S. Duck is a very dark meat. Only the meats of grain-fed crittersare pale.
P.P.S. Get a life.
And here is his response in full to my telling him that I follow the Blood Type Diet
"Also, the eat for your blood type deal is total nonsense. It's strictly a one-man opinion thing with not one shred of scientific review nor analysis."

OMG--said Out Loud to God. I guess I've been away from Texas too long....I'm just stunned by his rudeness. So sorry this happened to you!
Love,

Okay, he does not want to mess with my wheat-infused self right now!!!!!!!!!!!! Uh, yeeeah, that e-mail he sent to you was not only totally unprofessional but it was unbelievably hate-filled and stereotype-laden re "New Yorkers". He is really lucky he didn't send me that e-mail. Really lucky. I'd be reporting his sorry excuse for a self to some authority(ies).
Boycott Slanker meats, that's what I cry!

I cannot believe the arrogance of that guy. My jaw dropped when i read his e-mail to you ATO. I'm all about the boycott too. I wonder if Ted has ever heard of "word of mouth" ????? What a fool, is there a place on the web to post about such negative customer no-service?
I asked around about him and found a friend of a friend who ordered from Slanker once but found him "too intense" and will never do business with him again.

Been doing a bit of Googling on this ignorant, hate-filled bag-o-condescension and rudeness. First off, I could have linked an interesting article he wrote. Interesting because he talks about how there are "city slickers" (I guess that is those awful NYers again) and "country hicks", and the two refuse to understand each other and it is all the fault of big business. Hmmmmm, seems like YOU (Slanker) could be a participant in that rift with your anti-NYer comments, but hey, that's just me. What do I know, like most Americans, I guess I'm just as dumb as "a bag of hammers", per the same article.
But what I'm choosing to link here instead was a discussion on a forum that my Googling netted me. It seems our Mr. Slanker uses all manner of pesticides and fertilizers, etc. on his grass. You know, the grass that his meat is "grassfed" on? Yeah, that grass:

Oh, it gets better. Mind, I'm only putting up the choicest of all the INTERESTING links I'm finding on this guy. Among other things, he was this stockbroker (hmmm...possibly in his beloved NY, do ya think?) and gold investor.
AND the financial officer of a golf company that used cyanide-contaminated leach pads on its mining sites. Um hmmm. I'm just sayin':

btw, I should send him the lyrics of my new hero, Madonna, who has this fab song on her new album called I Love New York. The lyrics are as follows, and I've purplified the ones that most apply to our new bud:
"I don't like cities But I like New York Other places make me feel like a dork Los Angeles is for people who sleep Paris and London Baby you can keep
[Chorus] Other cities always make me mad Other places always make me sad No other city ever made me glad except New York I love New York [X3]
If you don't like my attitude Then you can [edited for family site] Just go to Texas Isn't that where they golf
New York is not for little [edited] who scream If you can't stand the heat Then get off my street [repeat] [Chorus]
I love New York [repeat] Get off my street [repeat]"
Go, girl. I'm lovin' Madonna lately!!!
I mean, how dare he say the stuff he said about NYers. I never!

Quoted from Jane
All I have to say about anyone who treats a potential customer like that is consider the source. What a jerk.
Yup. I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you. I don't shock easily due to being way jaded from living in this world for as long as I have. Yet that's twice* in one month I've been shocked. Oh, the humanity.
* The Michael Richards incident was the other shocker. Whoa.

P.S. Afri-O, if you have a Whole Foods in your area, just get your grassfed beef there.
WHOLE FOODS FOREVER!
There is a Whole Foods in Manhattan, but Whole Foods are EXTREMELY expensive here. It's expensive for them to do business and they only stock things with relatively high profit margins. I'm out in the suburbs, and my store will not even stock pastured beef; they say it is not economically feasible, if you can imagine! (They did away with the salad bar . . . I heard because there was too much waste.)
