I was making myself a "health" smoothie with my hand blender (bananas, fresh pineapple, fresh kale, fresh spinach, fresh parsley, pure soy or rice protein, a snip of seaweed, and sometimes other fruits or juices). I got tired of the time it took to make it, so I investigated buying a stronger blender.
I ended up buying a VitaMix. The day I watched the demo, they said when using fresh pineapple, not to throw away the center core because this part contained the bromelain. I am not certain whether this is true or not, but I am now including the center core of the pineapple in my smoothies. I make enough to last for 3 days and store it covered in a wide-mouth Mason jar.

I usually eat the center core! no wonder.......no pain! lol has a lot of fiber, too!

When I buy a small organic pineapple, it usually lasts me one week or more. I eat the whole inside of a pineapple once it is skinned. The core contains more of the body or 'meat' of the fruit; some parts of the core can often be tough or fibrous.

When I buy a pineapple, I usually cut the top off then start cutting off about 1/2 inch slices when I want to eat some. I peel each slice just before eating and eat all of the pineapple off of the skin as well. I eat the whole slice including the core, unless it is just too fibrous... I chew it and suck all of the flavor out.
In the life cycle of the pineapple commercially there is three successive crops. The first fruit is the largest, but least desirable - this is what is sold in stores.
The third fruit is the smallest, and sweetest, and does not ship well - from this one its the core that is the best part...it is called the "Sugarloaf Pineapple".

Talking about pineapples, I've been having big mouth and tongue reactions lately , the sandpaper effect along with a sensation of swelling, and have wondered if pineapple is the culprit as I had used a particularly sour one. It is one of my favourite foods, and I like to use it several times a week, but at the moment it is not apparently working for me. I tried a dental mouthwash a couple of times to see if I had a mouth infection, and that certainly eased the problem, but maybe it was just because I had eliminated the pineapple. Any ideas please? Jenny
Sounds like 'Pineapple Overdose' to me - I've known several people, including myself, that when we've gone to Hawai'i and maxed on Ananas you get this effect. Its months before I can eat it again. Whether or not people have an actual allergy?

I too get mouth sores if I eat too much pineapple. Have a question about making up veggie/fruit drinks days in advance. If you 'juice' for 3 or 4 days, don't you lose some of the nutrition that way?
You do lose some - Nothing is perfect, buts its still better than no juice or from concentratre/pasteurized with stuff in it.

I make pineapple smoothies in my Vita-Mix (mixed only with ice & a little water), and I notice that if I drink a tall glass of it, my throat & mouth get sore. As long as I only drink a smaller amount (8-10oz), I have no problem.
oddos, Thanks for the belly laugh re: your signature line. oh, ah, still laughing.. Hey guys, thanks for all the pineapple talk. Growing up I always hated pineapple, til I tried it fresh -wow. Then ate a whole one and had bright red lips for several days!!! Ah, moderation, that's the rub. I wonder if moderation is harder for us Cave-O's....
