I noticed on another post that Kristy requested some type As post their menus... so I thought I'd start a thread
One caveat for my menu: I'm not in 100% compliance, and I eat slightly more servings of grains (in the form of bread, rice, cereal) than recommended.
Today's menu:
530 AM - warm lemon water 6 AM - 1 cup Buckwheat Flakes, 7 pecans, 1 cup soy milk, 1 piece of veggie sausage 9 AM - 1 pumpkin-spelt-pecan muffin with 2 tbs homemade walnut butter Noon - 3/4 cup black beans & 3/4 cup spelt berries with a dash of olive oil, salt, cumin 3 PM - 1 brown rice cake with 2 tbs walnut butter (normally would have peanut butter here but I ran out at the office) 5:15 PM - 1/2 grilled cheese sandwich* and 1 cup veggie soup** 7 PM - apple, Luna or Clif bar***
* I use sprouted grains bread, Earth balance organic "margarine," and two slices of yogurt cheese ** Based in homemade chicken broth, with garlic, ginger, carrots, onion, and celery *** Only if hungry. I have school tonight and sometimes I'm hungry, sometimes I'm not.

How are we suppose to compete with that . Homemade walnut butter, muffins, did you make all that. No wonder you are up at 5:30 in the morning. Even though A's aren't as competive and O's I am up for the challenge. You are doing a great job and I will use you as a mentor to better myself.

Thanks! I'm sorry it's not meant to be a competition I'm actually up at 4:45 to 5 AM because I am at work by 6:30 AM. I'm happy to help you however I can Sassy
My trick to eating well is that I spend most of Sunday in the kitchen. I wouldn't be able to make 80% compliance without that time, much less work on increasing our compliance.
I spent literally 2 hours last Sunday just planning menus for hubby and I. It normally doesn't take that long, but I decided I need to focus on bringing our frequencies more into compliance and it was a PITA (I've never paid attention to frequencies specifically, just in general like only have a dairy a few times a week, etc.) My Sundays are all about getting ready for the week. Shopping, washing fruits & veggies, chopping veggies, marinating meat, cooking rice and beans, packing everything into lunch containers, etc. It takes a lot of time, but I love to cook and we eat so well this way, it's an investment in our health and I enjoy myself. (DH loves it as well because then he can play video games all day without my interruption )
There's a 'what did you eat today" thread in the stickies section that you may find interesting.
I'll do yesterday since today is just beginning:
lemon water
Bfast: Soaked steel cut oats with 1TBL peanut butter and blackstrap molasses w/ blueberries
Snack: cup of coffee w/ veggie glycerin
Lunch: Large green salad w/ broccoli, green beans, cauliflower, asparagus, 3oz. Fresh Red Salmon Dressing: olive oil, lemon, salt and nutritional yeast
Snack: Apple Organic Flax bar from WF
Dinner: veggies and seeds wrapped in Nori with a spread of olive oil and nutritional yeast Steamed green beans with 1tsp Ghee
Dessert: 1/2 slice Ezekiel with 1TBL peanut butter mixed with cocoa powder and vegetable glycerine
I'm married to an O as well. I find that sometimes I have to make either two meals or several side dishes along with the meat/protein. My husband tried the diet for about a week but found it was just to hard for him. When I cook, I keep in mind his diet needs and try to accommadate them.

Yep, we get separate meals most of the time as well. He doesn't follow BTD completely - he's not a "believer" so to speak. But, for the most part he's willing to eat whatever I put in front of him so I'm working to learn O requirements as well as fine-tuning my A needs.
I'm going to make him some sweet potatoes this weekend and it may kill me. I have serious potato issues (though mainly for white potatoes).
I'm wondering, is anyone losing weight. I'm new to this, been trying for about three weeks. I think I'm complying 95% as I can. I can't seem to lose any weight altho I do feel a little better, except I feel a little bloated sometimes. Does anyone have any suggestions? Typical day: Breakfast: Oatmeal, green tea, water Juice before I leave for work Snack: 1 apple, muffin I drink iced green tea thru out the day and water. Usually snack on raw carrots and celery when I feel hungry. Drink juice about 4:00 before I head home Supper: Black eyed peas, collard greens, salad w/lemon & oil dressing, sometimes we have some rice or rice spaghetti, maybe a piece of corn bread made from spelt flour and whole grain cornmeal. I'm getting kind of desperate. I want to do this correctly for my health but I also need to lose some weight. My daughter started weight watchers the same day I started this and she has already lost 12 lbs. I would appreciate any advice. Taylo
Taylo - it looks like you aren't eating enough. Also, each meal should have carb + protein, carb + fat, or all three. (That's a general eating thing, not a BTD thing, but it works for most people I know, many of whom are nutritionists, personal trainers, etc.)
You need some protein or fat with your oatmeal (a veggie or turkey sausage or a nut butter would work).
You need some protein or fat with your apple or muffin. The apple and muffin shouldn't be eaten together - both are sources of carbohydrates primarly, and that meal is too carb heavy. Try having one or the other with some nuts or a nut butter.
You should have another meal between the apple/muffin snack and your supper.
Small frequent meals keep your metabolism running smoothly. If you don't eat for six hours, it works on the meal you ate in a few hours and then has nothing else to burn for a few hours. Think of your metabolism like a ball and meals like your pushes on that ball.
You can give it a big push, it will roll a ways and stop. You then have to walk all the way to where it stopped, give it another big push, etc. Or you can give it several small pushes and keep it rolling constantly.
Another thing I've read - I think it was in one of the books but may have been in a post here, is that type As should make breakfast their largest meal of the day. While what works for me is balancing all of my meals, that idea makes a good point: don't make dinner your largest meal of the day. Within a few hours you will be in bed and not needing all those calories, so your body will convert them for storage (i.e. fat). If you eat more earlier in the day, you can burn it off right away.
Hope that helps a little!
p.s. Are you exercising? While diet is very important in losing weight, so is exercise. Even if it's only a 10 minute walk to begin with, make sure you are moving every day outside of normal activities.

Thanks Sandra, I am also married to a type O and he is great in helping me. He cooks all my meals because he does not work. So whatever I ask for he trys to fix. Let me go back and try to add some things I left out earlier. I guess I wasn't thinking clearly. I am coming from the Atkins diet and am having a hard time changing my way of thinking I guess. With my oat meal I add soymilk and splenda. With my green tea I add honey. I usually eat my apple and muffin about an hour apart. Sometimes for lunch I have salmon, sardine, or peanut butter with ezekial bread. After my evening meal I am having a fruit smoothie, usually fixed with soy or rice milk, tofu, and fruit. I feel like I'm eating too much but not getting in the right portions for the day or something. I didn't think I should eat much meat products. Only have chicken 2 or 3 times a week. Your advice was great. Maybe you can give me some more suggestions. Taylo
Oh yeah I forgot I have started trying to exercise every morning before I go to work. It is a walking/with weights tape for 20 minutes. Haven't quite figured out the yoga think yet. Taylo
Let's see... Try to drink your green tea without honey. One cup with a little honey a day isn't so bad, but if you are drinking it all day long (I do that too), the calories from that honey are going to add up. And they are sugar, so they are empty calories. Counterproductive if you want to lose weight.
I'd still suggest getting some protein or fat into your breakfast. Soymilk has some, but oatmeal has a LOT of carbs (good ones though!). You need to try to balance all those carbs with fat (good fat obviously) or protein.
Even eating the apple and muffin separately, you still need some protein in there and some healthy fat to balance the carbohydrates. I know it seems counterintuitive to eat fat if you are trying to lose weight. But I promise it's necessary as long as you are eating good fats (nuts, seeds, nut butters, olive oil).
I would suggest not eating after that evening meal. How much time is between your supper and your bedtime? You want at least 2 hours after eating before going to bed, 3 hours would be better. Again, you need to move more of your eating to earlier in the day.
Be sure you are eating lunch every day. Have veggies with the fish. If you have a PB sandwich, have some fruit half an hour before or after, or along with the sandwich. (Some people have trouble eating fruits with other foods. I don't personally but if you notice a bloaty or gassy feeling after doing so, you might try eating fruit by itself 30 min before or after other food.)
You said you feel like your not getting the right portions - for portion sizes and numbers refer to one of your books to see how "in line" you are.

Oh, I see your problem. You eat Splenda. Stop that immediately!! It causes weight gain instead of weight loss (as does aspartame).
Eat more fish as well.
Let me tell you what I eat in a day (and that helped me lose over 60 pounds).
morning: Oatmeal, with raisins, chopped walnuts and almonds, cinnamon, some honey and some blackstrap molasses, with Soy milk (I also add a little seasalt). If I have time I will eat a grapefruit half hour before this oatmeal breakfast.
Lunch: Two pieces of any compliant fruit and half an hour after that, I eat either two slices of rye bread with goat cheese, a boiled egg with some strawberry soy milk. (the only time I drink something with my meal).
Evening: Two or three veggies with noodles (any kind of the brand eden) and either fish, chicken or turkey (turkey is beneficial for A-nonnies). In the beginning I would also eat a salad of romain, spinach, carrot with self made dressing (walnut oil). Now I do or my veggies, or my salad.
For snack I eat nuts. I take a little bag mixed with walnuts, peanuts, almonds, pecan nuts and some raisins. I eat that when I am hungry. Only needed it the first two months when starting this life style. Now I am not that hungry anymore in between meals.
I only have one cup of hot tea, the rest of the day I'm drinking iced green tea sweetened with sweet n low. I will try eating my big meal earlier in the day. I usually get home around 6:30 in the evening and my husband usually has my supper ready, so I eat then. I usually go to bed around 10:00 or 10:30. Maybe I could just have a salad and the smoothie and eat all the veggied for my lunch. Thanks for all your advice. I'll try and keep you informed if I make any progress. I guess I need to buy either veg or soy sausage to add with oatmeal. Taylo

Taylo & anyone listening...sweet n low is toxic to your kidneys (you don't want to piss them off - ha ha They're responsible for filtering your blood. If they can't do their job you're in trouble.
The filtering units of the kidneys (nephrons) do not grow back and so we naturally (and toxically- environmental, pesticides, drugs, etc) slowly kill our kidneys as we exist on this planet to where when we're elderly we have a much smaller percentage of filtering units in our kidneys. (This is why the elderly have more problems with drug buildup in their bloodstream and urinary infections).
Please! Say NO to Sweet N' Low!

There is an old saying in Germany: Have breakfast like a king, lunch like a farmer and dinner like a beggar.
Not that many act on it. I have breakfast like a beggar. Bread or croissant dipped in Coffee. A small meal at lunchtime and for dinner much more.

I never used to eat breakfast, but since beginning BTD, I have gradually switched over to this way of eating. I love it. I have a large breakfast, medium lunch, snacks throughout the day and usually dinner around 5pm. I eat less and less as the day goes on. Protein for breakfast always. I try to not eat any grains after lunch. this seems to be working for me.
After my breakfast with dry bread dipped in Coffee I get for elevenses some porridge made with reisdrink. And an apple or pear. Lunch is usually some reis or noodles/pasta and vegetables. Later in the afternoon I like to have some reiscake or even real cake In the evenings I have mixed salad, reis or noodles/pasta and vegetables. Some fruit. I do eat fish once or twice the week and sometimes even meat I am very healthy and feel fine with my diet.
