Cirrhosis, Primary biliary

Description:Though jaundice is a predominant factor, all forms were first linked to Type A over 75 years ago. A study performed in 1956 on 111 patients showed that cirrhosis in general had a much higher occurrence in Blood Type A than in Blood Type O, a fact that I have observed clinically. There is some evidence that bile duct cirrhosis is produced by free-radical damage, perhaps secondary to the liver detoxifying foreign compounds. If true, it would make the need for antioxidant supplementation in Type A even more paramount.

Biliary cirrhosis also attacks the bile ducts but in general, patients are middle aged women. The early symptoms are usually intense itching and yellowing of the eyes and skin (jaundice) as the problem progresses. Despite extensive studies, medical therapy has not been shown to have a significant impact in slowing the progression of PBC. Though 'jaundice, all forms' was first linked to type A over 75 years ago (1) a 1956 study on 111 patients showed that cirrhosis in general had a higher occurrence in blood type A at the expense of blood type O (2) a fact which I have observed clinically. There is some evidence that bile duct cirrhosis is produced by free-radical damage, perhaps secondary to the liver detoxifying foreign compounds. If true, it would make the need for anti-oxidant supplementation in type A even more paramount.
