It's a Nonnie World after all...
May 24th, 2010 , by Tom MI was lying in bed the other night and was almost asleep when I had the sudden urge to figure out my orientation in the house. After I came out of the grogginess and figured it out, I went back in time to the other two houses I’ve lived in over the last 20 years I was a little surprised. When I’m at home, I have always slept with my feet facing either North or South. I already knew I always slept nearest to the bedroom door so to have this new revelation was another confirmation that: You might be a nonnie if...
If you think you might be a nonnie there is a thread dedicated to us. So if you haven’t read any of it yet, here’s the link:

The Blood Type Diet Handicap
May 1st, 2010 , by Tom MIt has been my observation that a lot of the new people being introduced to Eating Right for their Type have a disproportionate
number of “Why” questions. I believe that the GenoType book and Swami Software do not tell a good enough story of why foods are to be avoided and provide “real life” examples how those nasty Lectins do what they do.
Those of us who grew up on Eat Right for Your Type and Live Right for Your Type - already had a good background for the afore mentioned GenoType and Swami diets.
I remember reading the Eat Right book and seeing myself as being the person described in the book. I really understood “why” I needed to change. It wasn’t the scary prospect of getting cancer, heart disease or many of the other more serious diseases. It was understanding what lectins were, the symptoms they created, the simple mechanics of lectins and what to expect once you eliminated them.
I get the feeling that many new people are overwhelmed with the GenoType and Swami diets because of the implied seriousness the newer versions that the Blood Type Diet present.
If you are new and feel overwhelmed or just don’t “get it” yet, read the book that started it all: Eat Right 4 Your Type.
Part 2
What supplements are you supposed to take and which are the most important?
This can be a tough choice if you have many health issues to address or money is a concern.
Based upon my personal experience and the recommendations made by Dr. D’Adamo in his health protocols; I would have to say that the Blood Type specific Probiotics are it.
The core part of your immune system comes from your lower digestive system or your “gut.” All of that bacterium is in a somewhat delicate balance and can easily be disrupted by eating the wrong foods or taking antibiotics when you get sick.
If you are getting sick often; having problems with diaherria or even something more serious like battling cancer; the Blood Type specific Probiotics are the difference makers! If you were undecided before; you now have a solid choice.
What's your health percentage?
April 3rd, 2010 , by Tom MHave you ever thought about your health percentage wise?
There are 365 days in a year, 12 months a year, 30.42 days in a month and 7 days in a week.
Let’s say you get sick twice a year and each sickness takes 7 days to get over. That would be a total of 14 days out of 365 for the year. That means that you were sick for 4 percent of the year. That may not sound like much when you are healthy until you break it down a little further. Let’s now add in how many days you are not “sick” but just don’t feel good, are in pain or dealing with a chronic problem. If you are like that, then that number could jump to about 20 days a month or 240 days out of 365.
That translates to a whopping 65 percent!
Can you imagine that 65 percent of the time that you are not enjoying life like you could be? 65 percent of the time you don’t want to get out of bed? 65 percent of the time is wasted on getting through the day complaining about your life?
Give yourself a chance!
The Blood Type Diet is that chance! By not eating 4 or 5 foods in your main diet could literally be the difference in dropping from 65 percent to 5 percent in less than a year!
Make the decision.

Part 2
Cheating
Dr D’Adamo says 70% compliance is considered “following the diet.”
I’m not talking about the other 30% you don’t really care about. You probably don’t eat them frequently enough to really matter.
I’m talking about within that 70% of your main diet, there are 3 or 4 foods that are “avoids” that make your mouth water just thinking of them. It will be hard to resist and your friends and family will tempt you. If you give in and don’t notice anything bad happen it falsely validates your reasoning for cheating. You are only re-enforcing the bad speaker at the epigenetic podium (as Dr. Dadamo puts it) and silencing the other speaker you really need to hear from.
The good thing is when you Eat Right For Your Type; you chip away at the podium of the bad speaker and build a podium for the other. Eventually the bad speaker will be silenced and the good speaker gets the chance to show you what real health is.
Decide to live better
March 6th, 2010 , by Tom MIf you are new to the Blood Type Diet it is not a choice;
It is a decision.
This isn’t a 6 month diet to lose 20 pounds for your wedding or 20 year class reunion. Be prepared to live your life with a long term goal of better health and vitality.
Your husband or wife will most likely think you are nuts. Your family and friends will roll their eyes at you and glaze over when you try to explain what the Blood Type Diet is. Your doctor will smile politely when you tell him what you are doing. Other diet gurus will denounce the Blood Type Diet with no proof or rational evidence. They will even go as far as saying there’s no science to back up the BTD.
WHAT?????
You’ll even doubt yourself! This is normal! Do not be amazed, shocked, intimidated, hurt, dismayed at the criticisms that will be thrown your way. Even when you get unbelievable results, people you love will still look at you and complain that their joints hurt, or they are tired all of the time. They will have heartburn, skin problems, gut issues and environmental sensitivities. They will moan and groan that they have tried every diet out there or they only eat salads and still can’t lose weight. “Give up the foods I love just to lose weight and feel better, NEVER!”
Once you have decided to follow the Blood Type Diet, own it. Nurture it and it will grow inside of you and become part of you. When that happens, a warm sense of peace will wash over you and you’ll be the one with a (big) polite smile.

Part II
If you know you react badly to certain foods, but the book says its ok – don’t eat it.
If you see that the book says your favorite food is an Avoid you will most likely have to give it up. Remember, it’s a decision, not a choice.
Don’t go cold turkey if you can’t handle the overwhelming feeling of “I can’t eat anything.”
Even when it really is to the point where “you can’t eat anything” just remember you can eat anything you want - if you want to feel good for ten minutes but bad for a week.
Pick 1 or 2 foods in your main diet that are avoids - and avoid them. Give it time to sink in and get used to it. It may take 2 weeks or it may take 2 months. Don’t sweat it. Your body will adapt. Instead of worrying about what you can’t eat, concentrate on the foods you can eat and emphasize them.

The Force
No, you won’t be able to levitate objects or use a Light Saber.
Your mind is a powerful ally. It is a fertile garden. If you plant negative thoughts you will get negative results. If on the other hand you have positive thoughts and worthwhile goals, it is almost impossible to fail. If you get the chance, listen to a lecture given by Earl Nightingale called “The Strangest Secret.” I had to listen to it many, many times before “I got it.” It may help you too!
Just Peachy
February 12th, 2010 , by Tom MBack before I started the Blood Type Diet I was eating what I wanted, when I wanted. If an occasional episode of diaherria came up it was no big deal. “It must have been something I ate.”
Fast forward ten years later...
Last fall my wife bought some peaches. We had not had any in a long time so we promptly put them in a brown paper bag to ripen. After a few days when that mouth watering smell erupts from the bag, they are ready to be eaten. I enjoyed the now ripe and delicious peach just like any other time.
The next day started like any other and things were going along until (gurgle, gurgle) - uh oh! – Run to the bathroom, start sweating...Well, you know the rest. I thought to my self when I was finished “that doesn’t happen very often at all! What did I eat that could have caused that to happen?”
The rest of the day was uneventful and I pretty much forgot about it.
The next week my wife again brought home some peaches and we ripened them. I again enjoyed another delicious, sweet tasting, mouth watering peach. The next day came and started out like any other until (gurgle, gurgle) – uh oh!...
The bells and sirens couldn’t have been any louder in my mind at that point. It was the peaches!
Now keep in mind that peaches are Neutral for Blood Type O’s but I had just discovered that they are not Neutral for me. As your BTD journey unfolds, you too will find that foods listed as Beneficial or Neutral may not agree with you. The BTD is an individual way of eating. Tweaks to your diet should be expected.
The Blood Type Diet works. Back in 1999, I was eating most of the wrong foods and it was masking any problems I was having. It wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I began to see cause and effect if I happened to “cheat” with a tasty avoid. Now that all of the layers of bad eating have been washed away, I can tell when something does not agree with me even though it may be listed as Beneficial or Neutral.
Part II
Most people who start on the BTD have one problem or another. Some of the newcomers to the BTD are over the age of 25. Most are over the age of 35. My observations have led me to the conclusion that there are two key ages that our bodies decide enough is enough. Those ages are at 25 and 35 years of age. Just imagine with me that your body has put up with all of the “abuse” you have given it for the first 24 years. For some reason when that magic number 25 rolls around something changes. You get more aches and pains; you get tired more easily or just feel older. The next 10 years come and go and at age 35 you really start to feel the decline. Signs are: Stiffness; soreness, just feeling awful most of the time or any number of dilemmas.
Luckily, Dr. Peter D’Adamo has developed a way to eat that can reverse years of damage and can actually heal us from the inside out. Give the Blood Type Diet or Geno Type Diet a chance to work its magic. Six weeks is not going to do it. Even six months is not enough. Every day you eat right for your Blood Type is a day of healing. Remember, you didn’t get to this point in sixty days and you are not going to fix the damage in sixty days. Listen to your body and it will reward you.
