The Return of the Blob!

February 28th, 2004 , by admin

Yes, it’s the return of the Blob. I do feel like a blob after ten days on vacation. We went to the California desert. And the weather was way cooler then seasonal. It only got into the 70’s one day. And we only had good sunshine for about 3 days and it even rained two or three times. We didn’t get the exercise in that we wanted to. The condo place we stayed at boasted an exercise room, but it was filled with really old home exercise machines. The exercycle was ancient. After 15 minutes on it, my sits-bones were sore for two days. The belt on the treadmill slipped a lot, too. So, we only used it once. Hubby is not a walker, so I stayed lazy with him on that point. Only played 3 rounds of golf while we were there. I guess I was a bit disappointed with the accommodations, and the weather. Couldn’t sit outside on the patio and enjoy the sunshine like we wanted to. But it WAS a vacation, and I’m glad to get back to my own bed.

Foodwise, I did okay on the trip. I didn’t make many bad choices. We ate lots of beef and fish. Once in awhile some bread snuck in there, but that was only at restaurants. And I did indulge in my favorite Starbucks drink (caramel macchiato) three times. We didn’t eat out much. Did most of the cooking in the condo. I would say I leaned more towards hubby’s Atkins diet (sans pork and chicken) than my healthy B diet. Didn’t have the right proportions of fruits. I think lack of exercise and being a bit heavy on the snacks and portions probably put a couple pounds on me. I’m not going to look until Monday, though. I need a couple days to drink some juices and eat my veggies.

The day after.

February 15th, 2004 , by admin

Okay, the show is over. It was very successful, and we had a lot of fun. After the 8:00pm show was the ‘afterglow’ party. I guess you could call it a cast party, but barbershop seems to have it’s own jargon apart from other forms of music. So, didn’t get home till after 1:00am. I was all jazzed up, of course, so bed didn’t call me till 2:30 or so.

Woke up one swollen and congested mess. And I can tell you every food I ate yesterday that contributed to this physical state I’m in. But I won’t. I want to pick up after the fall and do it right. Just fasting on veggie juice today and will have some fish tonight. Hopefully that will clear out these nasty fluids. Did some rebounding this afternoon.

Now the job for the next two days is getting ready for vacation. Laundry is the priority today. Getting a pre-vacation massage tomorrow. I’m so ready for this!!!

Today is what?

February 12th, 2004 , by admin

The week has just flown by. I can’t believe it’s at the end already. Besides my normal schedule, we have extra rehearsals all week for our barbershop show this weekend. They call the week before a performance “Hell week” and I can understand why. I was so tired yesterday it was all I could do to get through my Pilates session. I just wanted to curl up on the reformer and snooze. Tonight is technical rehearsal at the theatre, and Friday night is dress rehearsal. Then on Saturday two performances at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM. It is all so much fun, but very exhausting. I have been doing my best to eat correctly during all this time. I think it is helping, as I am not having any symptoms of a cold or getting headaches. So, on with the Show!!

First day on the links.

February 8th, 2004 , by admin

Went through the ‘big experiment’ yesterday. I have not played any golf since August 31. That’s more than five months. I had promised my acupuncturist I would lay off the game while she and the chiropractor tried to work their magic. So, hubby and I went out and played nine holes together. So far, so good. I’m feeling a bit of muscle strain from the unusual activity. But no big pain yet. But then, I have never been one to react immediately to any thing adverse or beneficial. It’s always a day or two before I feel any changes.

I haven’t been a perfect angel diet wise the past couple of days. Somehow a box of Godiva chocolates got into the house during the week. Actually it was the ‘free’ box that was offered when I ordered all the employees Christmas gifts in December. Kind of like a rebate, it came six weeks later. At least I’ve been keeping to the ‘dark’ chocolates (that’s supposed to be funny). Hopefully the other members of the household will finish them before I next get tempted. That will be in my notorious 30-minute cleanup session in the kitchen tonight.

I also have been snacking on hubby’s pate. It says Rabbit Pate on the label. Unfortunately I read the ingredients and it also has duck and pork in it. But rabbit is the first ingredient.

Other than that, though I have been choosing compliant foods. So, I can’t feel too guilty.

Just a little.

You'll Shoot Your Eye Out, Kid.........

February 5th, 2004 , by admin

I was really pleased with myself. Got a good deal on Ebay for a rebounder (mini-trampoline). I’ve heard good things about them, and I had been looking for an alternative to the recumbent stationary cycle for winter aerobic activity. If I could back up here a bit……. Last year I had bought myself a pretty fancy elliptical trainer. Spent some bucks on it, if you know what I mean. Well, after about eight months of using it, I ended up with a stress fracture on my foot. Really bummed me out, ‘cause I really liked working out on the machine. So, I had to get rid of it. My husband was glad (not about the foot, about getting rid of the machine), because it took up so much room in our exercise room. But, he thinks I am a total klutz. And, I am to some degree. I never was the athletic type. Grew up on a piano bench, so to speak. So, anyway, back to the rebounder. I was so happy about getting this, but hubby dear said I was going to hurt myself. That it was a bad idea and he was against it. All I can hear is the line from the movie A Christmas Story when all Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder air rifle. And all the grownups keep saying, “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid”. Gosh, what spoilsports! Anyway, it arrived yesterday. There’s an instructional video that came with it, but we don’t have a VCR hooked up to the TV right now. Just a DVD player. I did order a DVD with routines on it, so will have to wait another week for that. So, I will be very, very careful, hubby dear, I promise.
