Feeling guilty.

July 22nd, 2004 , by admin

I’ve been feeling guilty about not blogging enough. Sometimes it’s hard to think of a subject that interests me enough to think that anyone else might be remotely interested.

I was hoping hubby and I were going to be able to get away for another long weekend next week. Looks like that isn’t going to happen. Too many things happening with the business to allow both of us to be gone at the same time. That is disappointing. He needs a break. At this point, I have more free time than he does, so I can take mini-breaks out on the golf course, and singing in the chorus, and once in awhile losing myself in a TV movie. Hopefully by this fall we can see clear to go away somewhere together.

I’m doing well food-wise this week. I’m maintaining my new weight set point pretty well. I was up a little after the weekend. I had succumbed to eating a hot dog Sunday night while selling them at the fair. I was just too hungry. I couldn’t leave the booth to get water, so I also drank some diet Pepsi. I can’t believe I used to drink that stuff every day! Woke up with the puffiest eyelids on Monday morning! But I was back to normal by Wednesday morning. Now I want to lose some more. I’m never satisfied with myself.

The weather has remained hot. Very unusual for this area. I’m loving every minute of it. It does make it difficult to walk for an entire round of golf. I only walked half the round on Tuesday and hitched a ride with a friend to finish. I feel guilty when I do that. Half the reason for playing golf is for the exercise.

Went to the driving range early this morning with the daughter. We are trying to encourage her to pick the game up again. She was really good when she played on the high school team. After that I scarfed down a hunk of colby cheese and went to a Pilates mat class. Got to work and ate a cup of cottage cheese and am drinking a lot of water this afternoon. I should get in my fruits and vegetables at dinnertime.

Ya gotta love summertime!

Too hot to blog?

July 17th, 2004 , by admin

They say it will be 88 degrees today. I believe it. It was 79 already by 10:30. It will be the third of our 5 or 6 hot days we get in a year. Not worth putting air-conditioning in the house, for sure. But with the computer in the upstairs, I’ll be bugging out pretty quick. It gets mighty hot up here.

There is an annual community fair here every summer. There is a myriad of food booths manned by local community groups. Plus rides, games, a parade on Saturday, and a big fireworks show on Sunday night. The combined men and women’s barbershop choruses sell hot dogs every year. I’m pulling a couple shifts there this weekend. It’s just mad! There is every kind of avoid foods for all types along the mid-way. I’m watching very unhealthy looking people pass by stuffing their faces with corn dogs, elephant ears, corn on the cob (if they were all A blood type, that would be okay), snow cones, ice cream and foods I can’t recognize. I feel horrible feeding hot dogs on white wheat buns to all these kids. Then, to make matters worse, we are also selling Pepsi products full of corn syrup and I-dunno-what-else poisons. Oh, except for the diet one with aspartame. Of course, if this weekend were just a one-time splurge for these folks, then it would be okay. But, I’m afraid it probably isn’t so.

Okay, now I’m going to talk out of the other side of my mouth. I’m going to a one-time splurge tonight! It’s a summer party that we ‘bought’ at a charity auction last year. So, these folks who are hosting the party will have tons of food and drink. We are inviting two other couples, also. We did donate quite a bit to the charity for the party, and it’s almost 100 percent sure to be a good time. So, I am not going to worry about what they are serving and will eat it ALL! (And I will wake up in the middle of the night with a stuffy nose, and will probably have a bout of heartburn by the middle of the day tomorrow). I know the consequences.

Okay, I’m sweatin’. I’m outta here!

Success and failure.

July 11th, 2004 , by admin

The golf weekend is finally over. I was really quite tired by the end. There were some successes and many, many failures. The real successes were in the eating department. I did really well in resisting the avoid foods. They served chicken the first two days. So, I stuck to the salads and vegetables. The third day was a lovely roast beef. I knew they wouldn’t do chicken all three days. Did not eat any of the breads that were offered. The only naughty things I ate were the croutons from the Caesar Salad on Friday, and I did indulge in a snack-sized bag of chips on Saturday and a couple bites of the chocolate dessert. My reward, I suppose, for being so good. Oh, but then did I wake up in the middle of the night with a stuffy nose? Yes, of course I did! (It was the chips, silly woman!)

The actual golf itself was abominable. Unfortunately, my partner and I landed very last place in a field of 30 teams. It was quite a struggle. Usually, if one is going to have a bad day, then the next day is a lot better. And usually if you have a partner, she can bale you out when you are having trouble. Not so this weekend. We were both playing our worst golf ever – and for both days. It was a very, very long weekend.

So, at least I can start the new week without any added poundage to worry about, and can continue to work on little improvements here and there. Some day I would like to unload this last eight pounds that are hanging around my tummy.

Maybe I'll spend some time on the driving range!

Trying to maintain those a-political blues...

July 7th, 2004 , by admin

To quote Jesse Jackson: “If there wasn’t a Right Wing and a Left Wing, then the dove couldn’t fly.”

Hopefully that will be all the political commentary I will make during this United States Election season. I can tell it’s going to be a long one, too.

Just don’t get me started.

Any-hoo. Food has been my friend these past few days. I have been compliant. I have been exercising. And it finally looks like those dad-blasted Holiday pounds have finally come off for good. I can’t believe it took six months to reset my set point! Now, I have to be careful the rest of the summer to stay the same. I have a food challenge this next three days. It is the annual member/guest tournament at our golf club. So, there will be many treats to resist. There will be pastries set out in the mornings. There will be snacks to take on the golf rounds. There’s no telling what the luncheons will consist of, but you just KNOW there will be desserts. I will try to be strong. I will refrain from alcohol consumption in order to keep my resolve.

I will report back Sunday about whether I was strong enough to resist.

(Resist! Resist! Resist!)

A little behind myself.

July 3rd, 2004 , by admin

I decided to flip the calendar over to July today. I guess I’m just not ready for a new month already. And we’re three days into it. I might as well get with it and join the party.

The week went by too fast. I managed three Pilates sessions and two rounds of golf. Played well enough yesterday to win five dollars off the girls. Eating has been fairly compliant. Grazed for two days on a huge tuna salad that Hubby made. Other than that it has been the normal yogurts, cottage cheese, salads, vegies, turkey and beef. Haven’t had any beneficial lamb in awhile. I’d better do something about that.

The family wants spaghetti tonight. They want one of our rare carb feasts. I will give them what they want. I have a box of spelt pasta on the shelf, so will cook that on the side for me. I can just feel my mouth and eyes swelling at the thought of all that wheat!
