A$$ BITING COLD
October 7th, 2004 , by adminHey y’all…it’s getting cold here and I’m not feeling so brave anymore!! Tee hee…actually the skies have been gorgeous, the air clear and my clothing layered. I could see my breath last night; it’s kinda trippy being back on this coast with a REAL four seasons.
The very nice thing about the temperature change is that it’s now SOUP MAKING WEATHER—YEAH!! I boiled three turkey drumsticks the other night with garlic, salt, rosemary, and sage and pulled off the meat when cooked. Then I threw in more herbs (parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme), garlic, onion, carrot, and celery with some more water and boiled for another couple of hours. The house smelled divine!! I got a huge bowl of stock from this, froze most of it and will be making a yummy turkey veg. soup with the unfrozen stuff tonight or tomorrow. I had a quick dinner last night with turkey, beans and homemade salsa…felt like January in California!! (*wink**)
The only other thing that I’d like to note is that I have not been drinking anywhere near enough water lately. I usually drink ½ to ¾ gallon water (2-3 Nalgene containers) and have been lucky to get through one container a day. Part of it is being back in the classroom (can’t have bathroom breaks any time I want) and part of it is that with the cooler weather…I don’t “feel” as thirsty. Drinking water at this time of year is as important as when it’s hot so that the body can keep functioning at optimum levels and flush out toxins. I’ve been taking two cups of warm lemon water in the morning to help add a few ounces and have started adding lemons to my Nalgene to entice me to drink more often. I may pick up some herbal tea (decaf) to take in the evenings too.
Well, hope that this finds you all well and content. Remember staying highly beneficial will ward off colds, etc…I’m doing my best too!! Take care…
Howlin’ at the Moon…
September 27th, 2004 , by adminAaaaaaaahhhhhhhhooooooooooooooo…..there’s no other way to express it…the nearly full moon is majestic here in Upstate New York tonight. I’m beside myself with enjoyment of it. It’s not in any of the TYPEbase programs, but I’m CERTAIN that a full moon is highly beneficial for all types!! It is my completely biased opinion that a night sky like this just might be super concentrated extra-highly beneficial for us AB’s (I’m sure it’s footnoted in LR4YT somewhere)!!
Okay, so I’m in NY at Mom’s House dealing with family stuff and finishing my thesis (yup! It’s still not done yet!!) and just wanted to drop in on y’all to share a recipe that I’ve been enjoying since August. Eat up and be well…
Ingredients: any HB mild white fish, one egg, seasoning mixture (flour, blackened seasoning, dried parsley, garlic, onion, salt, pepper-just a smidge, powdered veg. boullion…Goya or Vegata are my faves)
Cut the fish into “catfish nugget” sized bits, beat the egg in a shallow bowl, throw all the fish bits into it and coat evenly. You should have made the seasoning mixture into a gallon sized bag (now you know why you need to read the whole recipe first!!). Throw the fish bits into the flour mixture and shake to coat evenly. Fry up in a hot skillet with a little bit of olive oil. I always add a tiny bit of oil after turning the fish, but also dribble water from the kettle in so that the fish isn’t soggy and greasy…
The fresh Atlantic fishes are simply divine with this, especially when coupled with lightly sautéed greens (spinach, mustard, I find collard greens too heavy to pair with this…but you may like it!).
Boston and Home?Sick
September 25th, 2004 , by adminHey y’all…went to Boston for a couple of days this week and really enjoyed being in a city again…it made me “home” sick for LA—of all places!! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being back in New England…away from all the noise, stinky smells and people of Southern California…but, for some reason, being in Boston made me miss that other life I had before.
If you’ve been a follower of my blog at all…you really should be wondering right about now if ANYTHING/ANYWHERE will ever make me happy! I know that’s what I’m wondering!! I really don’t think there’s any answer except that I will be patient with myself and allow any feelings to simply exist, rather than fret over them.
Needless to say, with feeling down these past couple of days, compliance has gone out the window. I had two big bowls of ice cream with crunched up Oreo’s in it this week. I also just chowed on some chips and already feel sick to my stomach…so of course, from this tummy ache until the next one, it’ll be superfood, parsley soup and bennies for me!! There have been several sore throats and stomach viruses running around the school this week, so it’s in my best interest to stay SUPER compliant so that I don’t get sick too.
I’m off to mom’s in NY for the next couple of days, so watch out for the full compliance report by the middle/end of next week. Stay well and smile…
stay tuned
September 23rd, 2004 , by adminHey y'all...sorry for a teaser blog, but I won't have a chance to write anything of substance for another day or two. I'm still here, and compliance (in mind and food) is the only thing that's keeping me centered.
Stay focused, enjoy the wind's dance through the trees and wonder about the whispers that tickle your ear at night. Smile...live...love...laugh...learn...and most of all...be well...
Operation “Beat the Free Ranging” Underway
September 14th, 2004 , by adminIt is pathetic how easily my body is ruled by its hormones…if you are faint of heart about “that time of the month” please switch to another blog now.
During PMS time, I go into this mode where my teeth practically sweat. By this I mean that I’m like a ravenous animal prowling the house for anything to consume. I call it free ranging b/c nothing is sacred…the ‘fridge, the freezer, high cabinets, low cabinets…baked, fried, steamed, raw…sometimes it’s comical the way that I scavenge…but of course it’s difficult to keep the ranging compliant. In addition, I’m noticing a trend that when I’ve been heavily non-compliant during the preceding weeks, my bloating is worse and the need to munch is heinous.
ANYHOW! Operation “Beat the Free Ranging” includes lots of cut up fruits, veggies (steamed and seasoned in the fridge) and constant moving from place to place so that I don’t set too long and think up what I could go get. A major component of Beat the Free Ranging is to take myself off to my room and read. I don’t eat in bed and if the book’s good enough, I don’t want to eat whilst reading (unlike a movie or TV).
Having said that, I’m off to town (no subbing today) to hammer out a good portion of my thesis project. My lunch bag is packed with baby carrots, grapes, cucumber, plum…hopefully I’ll steer clear of the dessert cabinet at the coffee shop!
Thanks for letting me vent about my traitorous hormonal basketcase of a body…take care and be well…
