Wincing in Denial

December 2nd, 2008 , by Amanda

How about I don't acknowledge the fact that the last time I blogged my little boy was just starting to crawl at 6 months. Now at 10 months he is just starting to walk. I've got to not wait for major milestones before blogging again!! I glanced through some of my old archives, and aside from the fact that I wrote much better before "mommy brain" struck, I notice a common thread through the years. I never seem to stay totally compliant for long, and my biggest downfall is ALWAYS sweets. On the good side, the lifestyle changes that have stuck from the beginning (such as no chicken, corn, oranges, beef, soda, etc.) are still sticking to this day. I also have a good handle on eating my personal superfoods (turkey, tuna, lemons, greens, broccoli), but I seem to waver widely on the in-between parts. I'm still an expert at letting life get in the way, and allowing stress to take over. Thankfully, now that I'm a mommy (with another on the way!!) I don't have all that much time to think about it. My biggest goals in the house as we head into the holiday season is to keep the fridge stocked with bennies and neutrals, and to limit the sweets as much as humanly possible. We're on the right track as we've been having turkey leftovers, and tonight I made collard greens, beans and brown rice (so yummy, and by Thursday there will be collard omelets gracing our breakfast table!).

I hope that this finds you all well, compliant, and restful as the busy season approaches. Remember to make good choices, not to stress over the bad, get in your lemon water in the morning, and sleep a little extra when you can. With hopes of writing again before the baby is potty trained...much love in the BTD!

Flaky AB

July 14th, 2008 , by Amanda

I am giving up on writing a tempeh blog for a little while since the entire one I wrote last time was reduced to 55 words leaving off with hubby being a carnivore (for the record, he also really enjoys his veggies!!!). Now that the baby is 6 months old, I'm finding that we are in a bit more of a routine within the household. This is a good thing, as I am able to get more done around here!! The other exciting thing about hitting this milestone is that our little man gets to start trying out solid (very mushy solid!!) food. I'm not sure of his blood type, but plan on introducing all foods anyhow. As he gets older, I can look at having him eat right for his type. It will be neat to see if the foods that make him gassy, fussy, etc. end up being avoids for his type. I do plan on buying only organic for him (we haven't made the leap for ourselves yet...though we are growing food this year out in the garden) and making as much of his baby food as I can. It will be fun to see him trying out different items; he's already makes funny faces at different textures in his mouth (fabric, papers, plastics, etc.).

On other notes, I am feeling frustrated with myself and my eating habits. I've gotten way back into the sugar and find myself eating volumes of food. It seems like I make up for the times that I can't eat because of the baby. I'm not nearly as active as I was before he was born, so my body isn't burning the extra calories. I've only lost about 15 pounds since having him. Hubby is in a similar situation so we are both hanging by our fingernails trying to claw our way back onto the proverbial wagon. We just got home from a week's trek to see family and friends, so I was able to restock the 'fridge with bennies. I've done an inches measurement on myself and am considering posting it here. I will probably simply report on the amount lost in the blogs. I feel like I need some accountability to prime the pump for this process. I'd really like to have the "baby weight" off before getting preggers again. I must say that it's humbling to realize that the flab doesn't just melt away like it did ten years ago!

That's all I've got for today. Take care, be well and stay compliant!!

Tempting Tempeh

June 12th, 2008 , by Amanda

Okay, so here I am writing directly into the website system again. Hopefully this time the post won't disappear before I can upload it!!! I am going to attempt a blog about tempeh again.

It's so yummy!!!

The best part about reintroducing it into my family is that my hubby (who is a known carnivore)

Grrr...

May 27th, 2008 , by Amanda

Grrr...I tried to do the right thing by posting a blog about tempeh today, but it just disappeared before I could post it. I'm now out of time and feeling frustrated that I didn't get a blog up, so I'm posting this rant. It seems clunky to write a seperate document to cut and paste, but at least it won't disappear before I post.

Anyway, more to come about tempting tempeh...but not now, I have to do a couple of chores before the kid wakes up.

Take care, be well and stay compliant!!!

And Baby Makes Three

April 24th, 2008 , by Amanda

Our baby turned three months this weekend...it's so amazing! I thought that the time could never pass through those first difficult weeks. Now I look at him and wonder who replaced my bitty newborn with a full fledged infant!!

On more domestic fronts, I have been settling into a routine with the help of spring sunshine. My daffodils have come up, the tulips are close behind, and I've been making dinner every night!! Hubby respectfully requested that I start trying new recipes since I fell into the rut of four basic meals over and over again. It has been so fun, and delicious!! I'll share some of my faves as the days go on.

Baby is waking now, so I've got to run, but with this new blogging platform I'll be on more often to post quickies!!
