I'm doing well on the oat matzah. I had it for the seders and for the Yom Tov meals. I intend to have half a piece of matzah for each of the Shabbos meals, and again for the Yom Tov meals next Monday and Tuesday. But, since it's an "avoid" for me, I won't have more than I need to fulfill the mitzvah of eating "bread" for each festive meal, and I won't eat it after Passover.

I've had gas for ages and would not be without it; mind you the first time I cooked with gas I managed to burn my meal not knowing how it worked as opposed to electric.

Well, the new electric stoves of today are nothing compared to those of the past. They heat up rather quickly and I had to use one the other day at a friend's house. Some of the burners had high and then high/lo features etc...I found it all rather confusing. So a learning curve with the electrics are in order. I'm one of those who like to read the manuals. Have fun figuring out your stove Ruth!

Not being Jewish I don't celebrate Chanukah, but the sweet potatoes latkes sound lovely! I will give them a try.

I really enjoy you simple explanations Ruth.
Ruthie,
I made sweet potato latkes on Saturday night for Chanukah too. I didn't have any fresh compliant flour so I just used grated sweet potatoes, a dash of cinnamon and seasalt, an egg and some arrowroot to hold them together. I didn't even bother with the onions. I fried them in a combo of EVOO and ghee - they were SO good. I also had some fresh cranberry sauce that I'd made with a little agave and some fresh pineapple chunks....really really good with the sweet potatoes.
Happy Chanukah!
I usually make one-dish meals in foil pans over Succos, so it's easier to carry down to the succah. Meat and veggies in one dish, although we did keep the rice separate this year, in smaller foil pans. We had a roast whole chicken, sliced brisket, meatballs, and I know we had a 4th meal for the first 2 days but I forgot what it was.

Over Shabbos I made meatballs again, and for the last days I made a dairy vegetable lasagna, then we had a meal at a friend's home, then it was Simchas Torah, when it's still a holiday but we no longer eat in the succah. The evening meal was cold salads and a cheese platter, and the last meal was brisket again, but this time with no veggies added, and tzimmes in a separate pan.

It was hard for me to get online to blog during the holidays. I can't go online during the holidays themselves, and the days in between were busy with holiday prep and general housework.
