Today is what?
February 12th, 2004 , by adminThe week has just flown by. I can’t believe it’s at the end already. Besides my normal schedule, we have extra rehearsals all week for our barbershop show this weekend. They call the week before a performance “Hell week” and I can understand why. I was so tired yesterday it was all I could do to get through my Pilates session. I just wanted to curl up on the reformer and snooze. Tonight is technical rehearsal at the theatre, and Friday night is dress rehearsal. Then on Saturday two performances at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM. It is all so much fun, but very exhausting. I have been doing my best to eat correctly during all this time. I think it is helping, as I am not having any symptoms of a cold or getting headaches. So, on with the Show!!
First day on the links.
February 8th, 2004 , by adminWent through the ‘big experiment’ yesterday. I have not played any golf since August 31. That’s more than five months. I had promised my acupuncturist I would lay off the game while she and the chiropractor tried to work their magic. So, hubby and I went out and played nine holes together. So far, so good. I’m feeling a bit of muscle strain from the unusual activity. But no big pain yet. But then, I have never been one to react immediately to any thing adverse or beneficial. It’s always a day or two before I feel any changes.
I haven’t been a perfect angel diet wise the past couple of days. Somehow a box of Godiva chocolates got into the house during the week. Actually it was the ‘free’ box that was offered when I ordered all the employees Christmas gifts in December. Kind of like a rebate, it came six weeks later. At least I’ve been keeping to the ‘dark’ chocolates (that’s supposed to be funny). Hopefully the other members of the household will finish them before I next get tempted. That will be in my notorious 30-minute cleanup session in the kitchen tonight.
I also have been snacking on hubby’s pate. It says Rabbit Pate on the label. Unfortunately I read the ingredients and it also has duck and pork in it. But rabbit is the first ingredient.
Other than that, though I have been choosing compliant foods. So, I can’t feel too guilty.
Just a little.
You'll Shoot Your Eye Out, Kid.........
February 5th, 2004 , by adminI was really pleased with myself. Got a good deal on Ebay for a rebounder (mini-trampoline). I’ve heard good things about them, and I had been looking for an alternative to the recumbent stationary cycle for winter aerobic activity. If I could back up here a bit……. Last year I had bought myself a pretty fancy elliptical trainer. Spent some bucks on it, if you know what I mean. Well, after about eight months of using it, I ended up with a stress fracture on my foot. Really bummed me out, ‘cause I really liked working out on the machine. So, I had to get rid of it. My husband was glad (not about the foot, about getting rid of the machine), because it took up so much room in our exercise room. But, he thinks I am a total klutz. And, I am to some degree. I never was the athletic type. Grew up on a piano bench, so to speak. So, anyway, back to the rebounder. I was so happy about getting this, but hubby dear said I was going to hurt myself. That it was a bad idea and he was against it. All I can hear is the line from the movie A Christmas Story when all Ralphie wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder air rifle. And all the grownups keep saying, “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid”. Gosh, what spoilsports! Anyway, it arrived yesterday. There’s an instructional video that came with it, but we don’t have a VCR hooked up to the TV right now. Just a DVD player. I did order a DVD with routines on it, so will have to wait another week for that. So, I will be very, very careful, hubby dear, I promise.
Tuesday...
February 3rd, 2004 , by adminSo far, so good this first two days of the week. I even managed not to stuff my face while cleaning the kitchen last evening. How many times do I have to do that in a row to make it a habit? I forget. It must be ten or fourteen.
Had a double-whammy day on the body. My acupuncturist and chiropractor work in tandem sometimes. The acupuncturist does her thing and gets my body ready for adjustment. Works really well. They are trying to get my chronic neck and shoulder pain under control before golfing season. I think I only played 6 rounds last year because of it. I have degenerating cervical disks. And then the chiropractor (she’s a new one to me) found four ribs out of place. Especially the first ones on each side. It’s amazing how things are changing as they work their wonders. Sometimes my body complains because of the changes. I even had to get a different pillow because of neck changes. And I had been using a top-of-the-line Tempur-pedic pillow. But it quit doing its thing and now I’m on a down pillow with a neck bolster.
Looks like leftover lamb and salad for dinner tonight. That will be after another marathon four-hour rehearsal. (Yawn).
Super Slow Superbowl Sunday
February 1st, 2004 , by adminThis is one of those Sundays where I didn’t have anything planned that I really needed or wanted to do. So, naturally, I have been fairly productive. Got the Sunday paper read with my forbidden cup of coffee. Ate some leftover lamb. Had a good aerobic workout on the stationary recumbent bike. (I'm listening to a Robert Ludlum book-on-tape while on the bike. Makes the time go much faster). Had a banana. Then I tackled about seven months worth of filing that had been building up on my desk. That is one of those tasks I always put off till after the last minute. Now, I’m just hanging around with a cup of green tea waiting to watch the Superbowl with the family. I actually have it recording on Tivo, because the husband and daughter are taking advantage of a break in the rainy weather and are out riding their motorcycles.
I bought a splurge item to munch on during the game. Since cutting way back on grains and starches, I have missed the crunchiness of chips. Got a bag of vegetable chips. They are taro, sweet potato and parsnip chips – quite compliant except for the canola oil they are cooked in. I may even put a beer in the fridge to have along with them. I am very neutral on the game this year. It will be fun just to watch the hoopla.
