So I’m horrified to see that the last blog I wrote was at 6 ½ months preggers. The baby is now 2 ½ months old!!! There are a few funny coincidences though…I wrote in that blog that all I could hold on to was spicy food. If I remember correctly, that eggplant tofu was my last spicy meal; the heartburn won out over my love of spicy foods. I’m back on the juice now and just made that same recipe this week! I’m thrilled to have spicy back, because the baby is very sensitive to “gassy” foods, so it’s been no beans, broccoli, cauliflower or brussel sprouts for me…so sad…my favorite veggies!!
Okay, to catch up. First of all, the login info for my blog has been locked in my laptop. It is now on the home computer, so I’ll be able to blog a bit more frequently (shouldn’t be hard to beat my last record of 4 months!). Secondly, we had our baby!! We had a little boy toward the end of January. He was born nearly 7 ½ pounds and 20.5 inches long. He’s still a long, skinny little guy!! I love my precious little gift, and have had so much fun learning to be a mommy. My husband is a natural at fatherhood, and has been an excellent spouse riding the rollercoaster of hormones/emotions following birth.
I ate right for my blood type all the way until the end of my pregnancy. Then it was cold and snowy outside, I couldn’t eat the things I like, and I couldn’t eat much at a time. I was still teaching exercise classes every day, and needed fuel to keep me going, so I turned to heavy comfort foods. I did a lot of pasta, and certainly indulged in the sweets. That trend continued post-partum. I gave birth naturally, and had no idea how long the physical recovery would take. I went from working out every day to sitting on the couch for 4 weeks straight. Needless to say, the comfort foods continued.
I’m only now getting my head above the water where eating is concerned. The massive hunger attacks of breastfeeding have subsided, and I’m able to eat more normally now. It’s getting warmer and thus easier to eat salads again twice a day, and I’m sick of my out of shape body, so BTD it is. The only real things I need to do differently are to cut out all the sweets, and cut down on the volume. I never strayed into my major avoids (chicken, corn, oranges), and tried to stick with my super bennies as long as they didn’t give my little man gas. I’m also back to my old self physically, so the baby and I are looking forward to going for lots of walks through the spring. I’m back at the Y teaching only one night a week (daddy has to leave work early for me to teach class), but it’s great to be back in the pool even just one day a week. We’re hoping to work something out over the lunch hour as there’s a Y right next to my hubby’s work. I’m hoping that he can take the baby for 45 minutes while I whip though laps a couple days a week.
Whew!! This has been a whirlwind, scattered blog!! I will collect myself and my thoughts and write a bit more coherently in the future. I got a few emails about the eggplant tofu recipe. I think that I’ve blogged about it before, so I’ll see if I can locate the original blog and repost it.

It has taken six and a half months for me to look pregnant, and it’s even more fun now that I do!! The only drawback is that with the expansion happening on my insides, I’m not able to draw air as easily as usual!! I’m sitting on the couch with my laptop as I write this, and between dinner, the baby, and my positioning…I’m heaving for air!! I know that I should change positions, but I’m propped up pretty well right where I am!!
Anyhow, all else is going well. After the second trimester binge, I am back to eating very compliantly because there’s just not room to not! I feel like I’m eating less food overall, but am eating all the time…so what does go into “our” bodies needs to pack the largest nutritional punch!
Thanks for humoring this very rambling blog…just a quick dash off to check in. Tomorrow’s dinner will be spicy eggplant and tofu (so delicious); so far my heartburn has been limited to fried foods, not spicy ones!! Let’s hope that continues…

My new favorite way to make eggs (since I can’t do my preferred gooey yolk fried egg over rice with the pregnancy) is to have omelets. However, I’m a horrible omelet flipper, so I decided to start making them the way I had them at lunchtime in Europe.
I love them because I can add in whatever ingredients I want (usually leftover veggies…squash, mushroom, onion, garlic) with a quick stir-fry, pour the 2 whisked eggs over the top (I always add a spice to the eggs…dill, marjoram, thyme, parsley), cover it on medium heat until set, flip for a minute or so…and voila! A delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner meal fit for a hungry BTDer. It’s sometimes a special treat to put a dollop of lowfat sour cream on the top too.
I also appreciate the fact that they are full of protein and proper nutrition without making me feel full to bursting. And…a flat omelet just looks so darned attractive sitting on a plate with whatever ingredients have been added just peeking through the yellow. They are especially handy with a side of veggies (broccoli or wilted greens look the prettiest) for a quick and easy dinner.
I got back from working out this morning and was famished, so I cut up three good sized mushrooms, fried them for a couple of minutes, added whisked egg with dill, and had a quick, yummy breakfast with very little clean-up. Rock on!!!

I don’t have time to write an extensive blog, but did want to check in briefly. Been back from Cali for a week now, and am actually glad to be back on the East Coast. I had a fabulous time catching up with girlfriends, palm trees, Pacific breezes and FRESH LOCAL PRODUCE!! I loved that since I was staying with friends I had full reign of the kitchen and cooking up healthy, compliant, fresh, yummy food! I also enjoyed visiting my old farm stand (Ontario Farmer’s Market on Mountain if you’re in the area) and buying bags and bags of veggies for less than $10!
On the bump front: the baby is developing well and in constant motion…someone suggested that I get my running shoes in shape because if they’re active in the womb, they’ll be active in the world! I still feel wonderful, and simply LOVE being pregnant. My bump is looking more like a pregnant belly now that we’re into our 5th month, and I am constantly amused by having to learn new ways to move my body (I know…the best is yet to come!!). I’m still teaching my water classes and am looking for a good prenatal yoga class to join. Hubby and I go work out in the morning before work, so I’ve been focusing on light weights to keep good muscle tone.

I am happy to announce that my husband and I are expecting! We are nearly 17 weeks along, and everything is wonderful. The baby has a strong heartbeat (I did get to see it a few weeks ago due to an early ultrasound), and all the necessary parts so far. Now into the 2nd trimester, I’m feeling outrageously fabulous. The first three months were easy (some tiredness and nausea), and now I have energy to burn and fewer mood swings. Hubby bought me Eat Right 4 Your Baby, and I’m following the advice therein layered with the advice of my midwives. I feel healthier pregnant than I ever did not, and I can feel my priorities shifting already…little things that bugged me before are forever lost in the “glow” of impending parenthood. I am so happy to be present and joyful during this amazing time; I must credit some of the mental benefit to the BTD. I also firmly believe that we would not have conceived without both of us eating right for our type. I look forward to the coming adventure, body changes, and learning that lies ahead, ever thankful for the quiet guidance and support of a healthy, balanced, beneficial diet. I also plan on always trying to conceive in the spring or summer so that I don’t have to be hugely preggers during a hot, humid summer, because the heat bothers me enough now…wink
