About Laura
March 11th, 2008 , by adminI grew up as an ‘Army Brat’, moving from city to city, As an adult I have continued to move around quite a bit, but have finally settled in the south (I think).
I was very active as a child and participated in ice skating, dance, and gymnastics. Ice skating followed me through my late teen years. I competed nationally and internationally and learned a lot from the sport that has helped me succeed in my adult life.
I graduated from Vanderbilt University and started my career in Politics. Working in Washington, D.C. for several years and then continuing my career as a political consultant in Tennessee, (once a southerner, always a southerner).
I have always been interested in health and nutrition, somewhat because of my own personal interest in the topic, but mostly because of my own health problems. I was always slightly sickly and underweight as a child, but my major problems began at age 14 after a case of whooping cough kicked off two years straight of respiratory infection after infection. This also meant two years of antibiotic use which weakened my system so much that it most likely activated a dormant case of celiac sprue and Ulcerative Colitis.
After trying diet after diet after diet, the BTD was the missing link that helped pull it all together. It helped me understand why some things worked and some things didn’t. I can honestly say that this diet saved my life. I still struggle and am forced to deal with numerous food restrictions due to the large amount of damage done, but I am slowly getting better and better. Hopefully by learning more and more about the therapeutic powers of ‘eating right’ I will someday be able to live free of pain and illness.
