Power animal discovered
The Lake Harriet Spritual Community was having a bazaar featuring all sorts of interesting booths. It was like an expo, only much smaller and more intimate. I had my tarot read and it was right on the mark. Then I decided to have my power animal read. I closed my eyes and began visualization with the spirit reader lady by my side gently keeping in contact with me. As I had just heard and seen two owls in my backyard the other night (both good and bad omens depending on the cultural source), I thought perhaps this was my power animal.
I scanned through my mind many different creatures trying to find one that stuck with me. However, most animals just kind of floated by never identifying themselves. Then, as the reading came to an end, I opened my eyes and the woman said to me she has found my power animal.
Diagnosis: Wild Turkey
With this I bursted out laughing. Not in absurdity nor in dismissal, but simply in the humor and surprise of this discovery. I remember as a high school kid walking home from school, coming into the subdivision where the old Asbury farm still stood (until some plastic surgeon took over the lot and put up an annoying white picket fence around this previously open mysterious land). Anyway, one day I saw a wild turkey in the barn. It was the coolest thing! I started to chase after it hoping to hang out but it just kept running away. I told everyone I knew about this turkey and they weren't very moved. From that point on, the fascination with this wild turkey encounter was always in the back of my mind.
I was told to learn as much I can about turkeys and turkey medicine. The most amazing thing about turkeys is their hopeful presence in today's environmentally unsound world. Man did many destructive things to bring the population down to 30,000 back in the early 20th century; however now these fine birds are thriving at 6.4 million! Turkeys symbolize giving, going above and beyond the ego, being resourceful and sharing.
There is much to soak in right now. Samsu, the female turkey spirit by my side, and I have much bonding to communicating to do. It should be a great journey.
