Hello! I am new to the diet. As a type B, BTD says Wasa bread is okay, but rye is not. All of the Wasa bread at our local store (and there were several varieties) are rye based - are these okay for me or should I feed it to my AB daughter? Also, some of our local foods are not in the books or database, is there anyway to encourage Dr. D to find out about lectins in moose or caribou? What should I assume in the meantime? Lisa in Alaska

Here's a rule of thumb for the items in Eat Right 4 Your Type: if it is a product rather than a whole food, the rating of that product depends on the value of the individual ingredients. So, for the avoid-rye folks, products containing rye are an avoid as well. I apologize for the confusion -- it stemmed from a desire to include 'alternate' products for people who might not know of them. We're moving toward listing only whole foods, distinct items and forms thereof from now on.
I also suggest that if you don't plan to get your secretor status tested, that you consider using the 'little books' for the updated food lists -- at the bottom of this page you'll find some recommendations and the full titles.
We don't yet have a rating on moose or caribou, but in the interim I would treat them as venison -- they're all closely related. Enjoy! And thank you for writing ~ I hope Spring is on the upswing there, finally? :-)
Hi Heidi, i'm not sure if i've asked you this before or not. i know i asked doc B. i tried to search but couldnt find it. i am anxious to know at what age i can start giving supps to kids? my one year old (Type A nonny) has weaned from breast feeding and is loving soy milk but does he now need immune enhancing help? what do you recommend i give him and how often and how much etc? i would really appreciate your help on this matter. take care, ros xoxo
Hallo, Ros! Unless he is showing signs of discomfort or illness, I wouldn't give him any supps at all. A wee little like him is best off without them, unless, as I say, he is in some kind of ongoing distresss... in which case it would be best for a skilled practitioner to advise on his treatment.
Just keep an eye on his nutrition, give him lots of hugs and kisses, and try to keep up with him. lol! he must be burning tracks in the floorboards by now. Warm wishes to you both, dear!! :-D
I have only recently been introduced to the Blood Type diet and after 1 month have noticed incredible improvement in my health.
I am a 53 year old female having struggled over the past 25 years with various symptoms, illnesses and diagnosis--including hypothyroidism, colitis, severe chronic muscle, joint, and bone pain, premature advancing osteoporosis, intermittent episodes of neurologic seizure activity, unexplainable weight loss, intolerances and allergic responses to foods and molds and even with documented lab results have basically been written off as a nut-case in the conventional medical world.
2 years ago, an abnormal IGA blood test result popped up with routine blood work and it was assumed I probably had Celiac Sprue. I went through the gastro testing including biopsy(which was neg for sprue but positive for colitis) and radically deleted all wheat products from my diet. I did feel better but after a year retested with even higher levels...the dr. had no answers and didn't seem to be concerned at all. It was suggested to just continue on the gluten-free diet. I still had all the same problems, but now to a slightly lesser degree.
I knew there had to be an underlying problem but trying to get someone to listen to you and did deeper for that cause is like digging a hole with a teaspoon....you get nowhere fast.
Recently, a friend mentioned she was reading this book and being a "scientic/biological-type" person, she saw merit in it and thought perhaps this might be a possible answer for my health issues and I might like to look into it. I was truly amazed and knew "experiencially" that I was already following the Type O diet about 75-80%! I decided there must be something to it, so jumped right in with both feet and have eliminated almost(still have to have my cup of java with vanilla coffee-mate creamer in the AM!Although this curiously does seem to act as a "beneficial" stimulant for my colon)all of the "avoids" on my Type O list.
I will be ordering the saliva secretor test soon as I feel with my severe medical conditions, it would probably behoove me to know my secretor status to go even deeper.
Since having deleted so many foods on a gluten-free diet, rice, potatoes, and cashew nuts were my staples. Lo and behold, POTATOES are my poison!!!I immediately stopped both of these and noticed my joint, muscle and bone pain diminished within a few days!!!Now, after a month, I feel better than I have in 25 years......I am overwhelmingly grateful for your knowledge and research.

Nice to feel you're no longer trying to dig the Panama Canal with a dessert spoon, eh? I'm grateful that you wrote, and I am proud to share your happiness. Enjoy your newfound health, Alice, and be prepared for little joyful surprises along the way. (Those are what we call the 'side-effects' of this diet, and they can pop up any time. ;-))
