Hooray! Got the goodies / Mad Cow Campaign link
January 21st, 2004 , by adminI got my shipment of blood type supplements and Sip Right today, and just in the nick of time! I've been fighting off one of my monthly migraines all day, and as soon as I got the package I ripped it open and took some of everything, then wasn't able to try sip right until an hour later. I love it! I'm not real big on herbal tea, I usually only drink it when I'm sick, but I love this stuff. No sweetener was necessary, and it was the thing to take away my headache. The rooibos tea in it is soooo relaxing. I feel like I just got back from a spa.
I ate the eggs I boiled last night for breakfast and lunch because I just didn't feel like cooking, or battling to find the time to cook. For lunch I made egg salad, I tried to just use olive oil in place of the mayo, but did give in and add a little mayo. I think next time I can make it though, olive oil and lemon juice should do the job. (Olive oil is good with tuna too, in place of mayo, especially if you like the flavor of olive oil). I put the egg salad on a bed of spinach with lemon juice, and it was very good.
Dinner was kind of funny. I bought some veal, so I hurredly dusted it with sweet rice flour, thinking it would work better than rice flour. (in the old days, I used potato flour with good results, for those who can have potato flour). The sweet rice flour absorbs liquid though, like tapioca, and just turned into sogginess. It doesn't brown well either. I'll try rice flour next time. So I put some pasta sauce on it, but that didn't help much. Oh well, it was edible. Then I had some baked sweet potato fries that I picked up at the health food store, and a tasty plum.
Tonight I find out my son's blood type, if I can bring myself to prick his poor little foot. He's usually really good about that at the Dr. office, he'll just watch and look at the blood like it's fascinating. I pricked my friend's finger in high school science class, and ended up doing it twice because I didn't think it was successful the first time. Turns out, it was successful both times. That's about the extent of my nursing experience! At least I won't do that this time.

He is an A, just as I suspected. That explains his ear infections and his small frame.

Quick blog, busy day
January 20th, 2004 , by adminToday was pretty good, but too busy. I finally finished eating my stew, I ended up not eating the celeriac in it, it's just a neutral and I didn't like it that much. So, stew and grapes for breakfast, two uncured organic beef franks and raw carrots for lunch, stew for dinner with lots of turnips, beets, onions and carrots. I won't make as much next time, but I will make it again.
At lunch I was very tempted to help my son eat his buckwheat waffle, I admit I took one nibble, then thought of an alternative. Black cherry juice, sparkling water and rice milk 'cream soda'. I overdo it on sweet things when I'm stressed, but at least it didn't have any avoids in it and it kept me away from the waffle. Oh, and my son had 1/4 of it, as he liked it too! Don't let it sit too long after you mix it, as the rice milk kind of coaggulates.
I'm ready for tomorrow, I boiled some eggs in case I don't have time to cook, so it should be a good day.
Back to work!
A good day, good stew and other ideas.
January 19th, 2004 , by adminToday was good. The stew worked out well. I had to put it in bowls and refrigerate it last night, then put it back in the crock this morning. When it was done it wasn't so bright red, more orange, but the beets were my favorite part, they kind of flavored everything else, the turnips were good too. I'm not too sure about the celeriac, I'll cut it smaller and use less next time. Maybe I'll just use celery next time. So here's what I put in it: from what I can tell it's all beneficials and neutrals: 2 cans broth, 1 can tomato sauce, 1 or 2 pounds stew meat, 3 beets (eat the greens separately), 2 turnips, celery or 1/3 of a celeriac, 2 onions, 5-10 cloves garlic, Italian seasonings, bay leaf. Cook on low for about 8 hours.
I had two boiled eggs from yesterday for breakfast, and a little fruit. I'm finding I need to have some of my breakfast made the night before. I'm too used to the convenience of cereal, and with a little one, it's the hardest time to cook. Thanks for the tips!
I'm also finding that I need to drink more water. I've always had trouble with that. I'm putting it in a bottle so I can take it around with me from now on.
I also had a tip on what to put almond butter on: carrots! I bought some almond butter and was so excited to put it on apples until I realized O nonnies can't have apples! I used to mix in a little cocoa with it, no sugar, and that was good with apples, so maybe bananas or pears would work there? Almond butter is one of the few creamy foods we can have, so I've been pondering its uses.
Good night!
Happy about blueberries and bananas
January 18th, 2004 , by adminI just found the answer to a question I had a few days ago, and it's a happy answer. I eat many bananas and blueberries but somewhere in the enclopedia it says O+s should avoid both, happily it was an error: http://www.dadamo.com/columns/begin/ask2.pl?20020606.txt I'd been out of the loop too long and had trouble finding the info. Just in case anyone else was wondering.
No Soup For You...No stew for me.
January 17th, 2004 , by adminI am losing weight. My jeans fit better. My tummy looks funny, it looks like it's just deflating. Today I had a few more carbs than I should, mainly because I was feeling sorry for my O-NonSecretor self; partly because I was out of the house, and partly because I went to a health food store, which can be hard for a carb craving O in the wrong frame of mind. I'm sure I overdid it, but now I'm back on track.
When I got home I had some organic chicken sausage for lunch with sauteed spinach on the side. I still haven't had enough protein, but that meal felt like I was getting back on track. The HFS had kind of a disappointing selection of meat this time, and no wild salmon. They used to have lamb, ostrich, buffalo...you name it. A new HFS is opening up in town, I'm excited to see what they bring in.
Dried calmyrna figs taste great! Especially when you haven't had a treat for a while. I used to love Fig Newtons, but the real thing is better. Uglier, but better. I tried a rice dream bar, but it wasn't worth the avoids in it, I enjoyed the figs much more. I did try rooibos tea for the first time, it was good, I can't wait to try Sip Right. It has rooibos and licorice, and now those are my favorites. I'm avoiding green tea for now, until my heart rhythm gets back on track, I've had premature heartbeats since my pregnancy. They've tested it twice and there's nothing wrong with me that they can find, and it's not dangerous, but it bugs me to no end. It's been improving since I started the diet, but today it's annoying again after a poor night's sleep.
No stew today, but hopefully tomorrow. I wonder how many weird vegetables I can fit in the crock-pot and still end up with a good stew...
If you didn't notice the two new databases on the website, take a look at the news section. RECIPbase is back on, and they've added a Blood Type and Disease database as well as a Health Protocols database. I really like all the recent changes to the website, it seems more approachable, yet I could spend hours reading it all.
