Hunter Trial Day 2
October 28th, 2008I've measured my fingers a bunch more times, and measured my legs once more, and am still measuring out as a hunter. Last night I made soup with ground turkey, onions, garlic, black beans (w/their liquid), cumin, and salt. I sauteed some red and jalapeno peppers in a separate pan for myself (I'm the only one who likes anything spicy). My A son loves beans and went crazy over this soup, DH loved it too. We also had a fruit salad (just pineapple and bananas). I'd prefer to slow cook the beans, and make a more traditional black bean soup, but this was a great quick-fix meal. I was planning to make chili, but without tomatoes I wasn't sure how to proceed with that one.
My tummy was happy last night, no DGL or digestive enzymes necessary, no heavy feeling after. This morning I was hungry for the first morning in a long time, so I grabbed a Lara bar on the way out the door to tae kwon do (ingredients: dates, almonds, walnuts, cocoa and chili). I didn't have time for more because I didn't expect to be hungry or handle food well before a workout. We had a pretty intense hour of workout, with some poomsae and break-falls thrown in. I can hardly even do a somersalt, and have never in my life been able to cartwheel, so I was nervous about the rolls. I did ok though, and emerged uninjured.
TKD usually wipes me out for a day or two, but today it seemed to give me a little extra energy for a change.
I'm very hopeful about changing to the hunter diet. I've always fit the hunter profile in most ways, and even though I have yet to lose my baby weight, I can have a very good metabolism when I eat the right foods (I can eat a lot and still lose). I had thought that any of the genotype diets would probably work, as they aren't that far from O, but I think I'm beginning to understand that these are more powerful than just that. I just hope they measure me the same at the clinic, or even explorer, but I really think gatherer wasn't quite right for me. If I am a gatherer, then SWAMI may give me some big changes to that.
Am I a Hunter?
October 27th, 2008I fought off a cold last week. The key word there is "fought", as I only had symptoms for a few hours. Lately those things get much worse before they get better, so this was good news. I haven't come down with anything since the end of September's pneumonia. I tweaked my diet quite a lot, and upped my compliance.
When I realized I'd tweaked it in the Hunter direction, by eliminating dairy and adding the gatherer black dots like sweet potatoes and bananas (Hunter superfoods) I decided to re-do my measurements. I really thought I was a hunter and hoped I was a hunter in the beginning, and fear I may have overcorrected myself. Now whenever I measure my fingers, by any method, the ring fingers are longer. One is much longer, the other just a couple millimeters. My measurements are more consistent, about the same every time, whereas they were bouncing all over the place before, so I must have been doing something wrong. Now, unless my leg measurements were way off (making me an explorer), I'm measuring out as a hunter. Some people I measure are without doubt, as their measurements aren't even close to being equal, but I'm just well balanced, I guess ![]()
I'll give it a whirl, without buying a bunch of bulk stuff until I'm sure. I'll be going to the clinic for the first time in a couple weeks, then I'll be sure. It's wilder than I thought, now that I study the lists, as it's not really the same as O-nonsecretor in many many small ways. I need a good workout every day, whereas I'm only doing it 2 or 3 times a week now. I know that part applies to me, for balancing out stress. I've always taken to the hills by hiking or running when I was upset, to help put things back in perspective. I need to do more of that to avoid the everyday stress burnout.
