Lovely blog Sue. I love Soy nog also and I look for it every year at Holiday season. I'm glad I can enjoy the egg not taste with the soy benefits and not have to worry.

Hi Suzanne!
My son wanted custard last month but I no longer have custard powder (mostly cornstarch). I made a white sauce using a ghee and spelt flour roux, added soy milk or yoghurt and sweetened with either honey or agave. I should have writtten the exact recipe down but of course thought I would remember it. He was totally amazed at how much it tasted like custard. We wolfed it down with hot apple sauce.
In searching for the ingredients in custard I found that Birds eye custard powder was invented by a man who's daughter was alergic to eggs. Custard was originally made with eggs not cornstarch. My mom used to make a baked custard (as opposed to a pouring custard) that was made with eggs, milk and sugar. I can ask her for the recipe if you are interested. You may still be able to have custard! Merry Christmas!!

Long before I found BTD/GTD (which doesn't allow me soy anyway) I realized that I don't do well on dairy. We've been enjoying the Silk nog for years! In fact, the soy nog IS our family tradition, and my kids don't even like the dairy versions.

Have you tried the Pumpkin Spice flavor? It's just as yummy as the Silk Nog!
