You may be able to grow a guava tree in your climate... I've had a tree for many years, but I didn't really enjoy the fruit - then I find out that the body was right! The tree here is very hardy and very productive.

Hi Suzanne,
I have a funny story about guava juice. I get some that comes in a cardboard container in the organic section, no sugar, great stuff. My sons love it and last year my 9yo told me that the guava juice had gone bad.
I checked the fridge and he had accidentally poured himself a glass of beef broth. Yuck!
