I had some spotting when I was 7 weeks pregnant with my son. It only lasted a few hours but it really shook me up. In my case, it was simply due to over-exertion- not "formal exercise" but constantly puttering around with the household and 2 young children and not taking enough breaks.

It only happened that one time and I had a fairly normal pregnancy, an easy birth, and a healthy baby.
